God bless, you an' me an' Daddy an' David, an' Keith Rothwell an' Laurie, an' everyone else, amen...
No one said the gods were kind
Zeus slept with a hundred wives
Arachne who chose to die
No one said the gods were vain
Odin with his one eyed gaze
Not afraid to show his face
No one said the gods were nice
Baal demanded sacrifice
And idols to adorn man's eyes
No one said gods were divine
Buddha in his mortal time
Sat 'neath a tree with pork and wine
No one said the gods had form
Hiding 'mong the leaves and stone
With small shrines to call a home
No one said the gods would mourn
When their motherlands were torn
As their children went to war
No one said they had a plan
To speak through the voice of man
To die and then be born again
No one said that some might lie
Or choose who lives and who will die
Or if there is an afterlife
No one said nothing at all
Because No one wants the truth to fall
Why should there be more?
Because No One fears the other side
Because No One fears the other stories
Because No One fears they may be wrong
So no one speaks.
Nothing at all.
(child's voice)
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep...
