    Malanya Ara
    Age: 166
    Gender: Female
    Species: Half-human, half-dragoon
    Height: 6'0
    Weight: 170 lbs.
    Blood type: O
    Birthdate: Loyortob 12 (November 14)

Appearence: Tall for a dragoon, Malanya is of an average athletic build, with an often irritated look about her. Her blond hair is pale almost to the point of white or platinum blonde, coupled with large dark gray eyes. Her large wings are a turquoise tint leaning more toward green, marked with the occasional scars from Knight work, and her hands are scaled in the same shade, with small dull-gray claws accenting them like finely-filed fingernails. She rarely ventures out of uniform, whether it's the one marking her as a master Guard of Land, or the slightly more stylized and unique uniform of the Land Trainingmaster. It's even more unusual to find her without her large, old but well-kept sword which is four and a half feet long. She scorns jewelry, seeing it as frivolity.

Guild/Rank: Master Knight (Guard) of Land/Land Trainingmistress

Personality: Most of the time Malanya comes off as cold and distant, preferring to treat all with a professional air. Inside, however, she can be quite insecure, unused to dealing with friendly interactions, but she's slowly discovering an existance outside her duties. She still takes her job very seriously, however, and fears dishonor more than death. She does have a sense of humor, albeit a rather dry and sarcastic one, and tolerates jokes and humor from those she's close to.

    Family

    Father: Torilin Ara (human)
    Occupation: landowner
    Age: Deceased
Description: A definite chavinist, he thinks that human males are superior to everything and married Pelia solely for her land. He was quite proud of his more elven son but despised Malanya. He often used physical force against her.
    Mother: Pelia Ara (dragoon)
    Occupation: gentlelady
    Age: 346
Description: A submissive woman who bought into Torlin's chauvinism and still lives by it. She has been very depressed since Torlin died.
    Siblings: Half-brother Saturi Ara
    Occupation: Landowner
    Age: 259
Description: Half-elf and half-dragoon, he is a man who trained to give himself the muscle that nature did not, but somehow seems rather frail. Lacking dragoon wings, he typically passes as an elf and has blonde hair and gray eyes like his sister. He is very sharp and intuitive and an excellent politician. While he does recognize that he cares for his sister, he also refuses to allow his personal feelings interfere with his goals.
Family history: The Ara clan is a family of minor noble standing in Kiridia.

Background: As a gentlelady's daughter growing up in a male-oriented household, Malanya was supposed to study the finer things, like crafts and needleworking, in order to make herself an appropriate bride. It was her father, a human, that insisted on these things. Malanya, however, was stubborn and a born fighter, too active to settle down. Eventually she and her father had a falling out over the matter, and they never spoke again. After his death, Malanya took up training to be a knight, with support from her older brother, Saturi, who was more elf than dragon. Her mother protested, but being a lady, she had little voice against 'the man of the house,' Saturi. She moved to the Palace for her training and has only moved out recently to focus more on her Trainingmaster duties (as well as have a little time for certain significant others).

    Bond

    Bond Type: equine/kraenon/kyushi tribond
    Bond Names: Seijinn/Toumamm/Xiush
Already Bonded (Luck Chasers), Common Tribond
Sire/Dam: Vixenn and K'laborell/Witzz and Shann/Alphalle and Narisalle

    Appearance:
Seijinn: Short, silky and sea-green fur accent his pale yellow/gold mane and dark indigo eyes which are thoughtful and intelligent. He is slightly tall for an equine and of average build.
Toumamm: Small and wiry, Toumamm is a bundle of coarse, dark blue fur and energy. His eyes are a complimentary shade of blue and he often carries a wolfish grin.
Xiush: Almost a giant among kyushi, he's both large and muscled, alternating between scales and fur as the mood suits him. Both are a dark orange in color, accented with gray claws. His large eyes have a hexagonal iris, baby blue in color.

    Bond Personality:
Seijinn: He shares Malanya's trains of honorable and serious, coupled with a decent sense of pride. In fact, he's even more serious than her and often misses out on her dry sense of humor. Although he's rather intelligent, he tends to rely more on his intuition. Not a joker by nature, he's often at the butt end of practical jokes by the other two. He's formed a stronger bond with Toumamm in Xiush's absence.
Toumamm: Toumamm is the brain of the three, the logical one. His logic sometimes compliments Seijinn's intuition and sometimes counters it. He has a bit of a mischevious streak and can often be found in cohorts with Xiush, and has mastered the art of cultivating an innocent look. Some of Malanya's more illogical traits frustrate him, but he is very loyal to her and his bondmates. He's not terribly good on the social aspect, and sometimes stumbles when dealing with his mate Raquiell, or his children.
Xiush: He's a self-proclaimed goofball, lover of food. He loves pranks and practical jokes which seems to have been doubled since his disappearance; he has even been known to play a few on his bonded when she gets too serious. He's the friendliest of the four and talks a lot. Since his conversion into a kyushi, there are still gaps in his memory, and his own pride doesn't let him admit it. He won't talk about what happened with Yuki to anyone. After being separated from Malanya for so long, he's become rather clingy and often checks on her at random times just to be sure she's where she should be.

    Ability:
Seijinn: Foresight: He gets a sense of things that are going to happen in the very near future, allowing for faster responses.
Toumamm: Restoring old or destroyed items.
Xiush: Casting illusions of bondcreatures on himself.

    Koshu Tero
    Age: 25
    Gender: Male
    Species: 3/4 human, 1/4 giant
    Height: 6' 11 1/2"
    Weight: 285 lbs.
    Blood type: O
    Birthdate: Nuartoirc 43 (May 2)

Appearance: He has giant blood, and it shows. Almost seven feet tall, Koshu would normally stick out in a crowd; his shaggy medium-green hair and bright orange eyes only add to his conspicuousness. He's broad-shouldered and built like a rock, and tanned from a lifetime in the sun. Across his right shoulderblade, he has three scars from the claws of some predator. Dressed casually, most often in whatever fits, he carries a backpack in which he carries a couple of instruments, some tools, and his books of songs and poems. Often enough, he can tackle any problems with his bare hands, but on occasion he'll take up a thick staff for defense.

Guild/Rank: Bard Guildmaster, specializing in poetry/composing/performing

Personality: Koshu is a gentle giant, constantly working to fill his bottomless stomach. He loves people, especially little kids. If he sees an injustice, especially concerning little kids, he is quick to anger. Often he is a big goofball (though he does have his serious side), easy to get along with others and conversing in his country slang. He is a leader to his younger siblings. He's very much a people person and makes close friends easily, and is someone idealistic (a side effect of his excessive imagination and creativity). Fiercely loyal to family and friends and protective of those younger or weaker than himself. He always puts on a smile, but he's inwardly sensitive to loss. He does have a slow-burning temper that he is very careful to control.

    Family

Mother: Katori Tero (maiden name: Trense)
    Age: 50
    Occupation: farmer
Description: A gentle woman, but built up from years of farm labor. Soft spoken and a decent healer. Long black hair often pulled back, dark brown eyes and dark skin, she loved and still loves her husband and kept his name after his death.
    Father: Binarsh Tero
    Age: deceased
Description: Rumored to be part giant, looked similar to Koshu (only larger, if you can believe it) with cheery idealism mized with a wisdom beyond his years.
    Siblings:

  • Jaiorin
    Age: 25 (twin)
    Occupation: apprentice Patroller
Description: Koshu's younger twin, taking after her mother in looks and other ways. Her dry sense of humor and blunt tongue are uniquely hers. See her profile for more details.
  • Hoti
    Age: 22
    Occupation: farmer
Description: The man of the house in Koshu's absence, also one of the caretakers of the farm. Serious, especially about the farm, and possessing an agile mind.
  • Kaso
    Age: 20
    Occupation: apprentice druid
Description: A redheaded, tall and clumsy druid still in his awkward stage. He is rather self-conscious, and wears glasses. See his profile for more info.
  • Jorsha
    Age: 18
    Occupation: apprentice smith
Description: There's one in every family, and he's it. Loose and lanky, his favorite pasttime is teasing his younger sister Jirdan.
  • Jirdan
    Age: 16
    Occupation: none
Description: The most feminine of the three girls, Jirdan's hobbies include makeup, fashion, and cute boys. She's generally pleasant unless she happens to be within thirty feet of Jorsha. Her aspiration is to be a waitress or barmaid.
  • Rista (f), Morian (f), Keshalan(m)
    Age: 14 (triplets)
Occupation: Keshalan is a knight page, the other two have no guild
Description: The triplets are usually never far from each other. Keshalan is a rowdy, naively fearless teen and the leader of his two sisters, although not so much now that he's apprenticed to the Knight's Guild.. Rista is gentle and sweet and fond of animals. Morian is unusually withdrawn and rarely if ever speaks.

  • Family history: Katori's line is a longtime native of the small village in which the Tero clan resides. No one is really sure where Binarsh came from; some say he was from the mountains. Binarsh and Katori swiftly fell in love and were married, much to the disgust of the homophobic village.

Background: Binarsh Tero was rumored to be at least half-giant. Koshu, the eldest of his siblings, looks much like him. (Binarsh died 12 years ago, soon after the birth of the triplets.) Koshu recieved a lot of teasing from the people of his village, but his younger siblings never got teased due to the fact Koshu would beat the bullies up if someone teased the kids. One day Koshu accidentally hit a bully too hard and hurt him badly. He left the village and studied to become a bard. Since then he's had a few adventures to write about, including a quest for the Etherium Crystals, bonding his long-awaited ryuuki, and earning his Mastery and being handed Guildmastery not long after.

    Bond

    Bond Type: ryuuki
    Bond Name: Kerosaulth
Already Bonded (Air Riders), Common Bond
    Sire/Dam: Marcath/Ceranilth

Appearance: Small and serious looking, a sharp contrast to Koshu's giant frame and cheerful air. He is an iridescent blue all over, and his eyes and claws are a darker shade.

Bond Personality: Like Koshu, Kerosaulth is a person that appears to be cheery on the outside but also hides a deeper hurt. He is polite and formal, and more serious than Koshu, though he does have a sense of humor.
History: He is a former air dragon who was named Kerosaulle with a unique ability--to be able to control his own age. He could have lived forever, but when his bonded died, he lost the will to live. He then met Binarsh, Koshu's father, who encouraged the dragon to live and wait to bond again with his son, Koshu. Kerosaulle reverted to an egg form to wait, and it was a slumbering Kerosaulle who kept Koshu from repeatedly bonding. When the air dragons left Shadow Star, Kerosaulle's egg was taken with them. Somehow he was reborn inside Ceranilth as Kerosaulth and finally got to bond his destined.

Ability: Stop time for everyone but Kerosaulth and Koshu for 13 seconds.

    Riko Oln
    Age: 20
    Gender: male
    Species: Human
    Height: 5' 6"
    Weight: 165 lbs
    Blood type: B
    Birthdate: Nadinu 46 (December 18)

Appearance: Dark and ragged short black hair, pulled into a small ponytail, almost conceals his cornflower blue eyes from sight. Riko's of average height and build, slightly tanned, and smiles often. He has a decent lack of presence from his averageness and tends to be unnoticeable. His outfit of choice is in casual clothes but prefers warm colors or black clothing, outside of his druidic robes. When he travels, he carries two swords on his back. The only jewelry he owns is a pendant made by Kelsie, worn around his neck.

    Guild/Rank: Apprentice druid of Claeryn

Personality: A few years of living in Shadow Star, mostly traveling during this time, has settled Riko's unsureness into a calm faith. Not much tends to surprise him or upset him, and his youthful hotheadeness has cooled into a slow-burning temper that is very hard to arouse, mostly only emerging when friends are in danger. He's had enough surprises to last him, he feels, and prefers a quiet life. His lack of surprise has given him a rather carefree attitude, coupled with a faith that things will always work out inevitably. He has a strong streak of loyalty to those he considers friends, and can be rather self-sacrificing for them.

    Family

    Mother: Ema (maiden name: Jal)
    Age: 53
    Occupation: Housewife
Description: A large, motherly woman who is kind to all the neighborhood kids. She wishes there wasn't war to keep her two sons away.
    Father: Jeran
    Age: 48
    Occupation: Baker
Description: A well-built man with a bit of a gut from too many pastries. He encourages all his children to live life to its fullest.
    Siblings:

  • Kelsie
    Occupation: Apprentice mage
    Age: 17
Description: See her profile. Kelsie hero-worships her older brother and is very attached to him.
  • Raven
    Occupation: Hand of the Goddess
    Age: 24
Description: A ruthless warrior, harsh and often cold to Kelsie and downright nasty to Riko at times. Tall with dark hair like his siblings, but green eyes.

Background: Riko was born to two average parents on the small island of Ablatas, and grew up with his two siblings knowing nothing but Chaos, taking the oaths to join the Hands like his elder brother. Despite this, he couldn't help but feel he was a little...misplaced, sometimes. When his older brother's master, Leon, took them on a Justice's mission to contain and destroy a strange girl, Riko felt that something wasn't right, and ended up fleeing the island with his younger sister, the strange girl Siren, and her Arena friend Mathis. Not long after he arrived, he bonded Riyonn, and spent some time thinking about what to do with his new life. Forsaking violence, he avoided the Knights and was first apprenticed as an acolyte druid under Ridli Holtseek. When the gnome was whisked away, Riko spent a year in wandering, looking for his master, and finally ending up in the care of Claeryn and Shujaat Khayri.

    Bond

    Bond Type: equine
    Bond name: Riyonn
Already Bonded (Luck Chasers), Common Bond
    Sire/Dam: Vixenn/K'larobell

Bond Appearance: A rather small filly, furred with short and soft gray hair and a dark reddish mane falling in thick soft clumps around her long neck and a tail of equal shade and texture. Her hooves are small and black and her eyes are large and a darker blue than Riko's.

Personality: Riyonn is sweet and gentle, and rather shy. Her set morals as a Shadowstarian bond creature have helped shape Riko's own. She tends to be a little self-conscious but is very loving once allowed to open up. She has a bit of a crush on her old classmate, Seijinn.

Ability: Project a small sphere about ten feet radius, healing everyone around them

    Kelsie Oln
    Age: 17
    Gender: female
    Species: human
    Height: 5' 4"
Weight: "A girl never tells her weight! *giggle*"
    Blood type: A
    Birthdate: Hyarb 1 (May 5)

Appearance: Her black hair curls slightly around her face, and her large eyes are a darker shade of blue than her brother's. She's rather small but full of spunk, and occasionally prone to pouting about her rather undeveloped and boyish figure. It's rare to see her without a big smile. After being confined to the blab dress of her strict home culture, she's gone clothes crazy and will wear (almost) anything. However, she's most often found in her required mage robes (although she tends to sneak various outfits under them. She carries no weapons; setting things on fire is defense enough.

    Guild/Rank: Apprentice mage

Personality: Kelsie's main personality trait is a wild, untempered innocence bordering into naivety. She's your typical preteen: spunky, full of life, eternally happy (although not without her moody moments and temper tantrums). She can seldom be serious and is sad even less, and sadly lacks her older brother's sensibility. She doesn't like being scolded, though, and often gets sulky if she is. She can be a hard worker but has a tendency to dodge responsibility in favor of having fun. She can be friends with most anybody, which leaves her vulnerable to being taken advantage of, but is sometimes alienated due to her birthplace. She has quite an affinitywith fire magic and loves to tinker with magic in general. She's a bit of a pyromaniac ^^;; and seems to act as a living outlet of fire: the longer she goes without releasing fire, the more uncontrollable her power gets. She hates violence and war passionately, and doesn't like dishonesty or keeping secrets.

    Family

    Mother: Ema (maiden name: Jal)
    Age: 53
    Occupation: Housewife
Description: A large, motherly woman who is kind to all the neighborhood kids. She wishes there wasn't war to keep her two sons away.
    Father: Jeran

    Siblings:

    Occupation: Apprentice druid of Claeryn
    Age: 20
Description: See his profile for more information.
  • Raven
    Occupation: Hand of the Goddess
    Age: 24
Description: A ruthless warrior, harsh and often cold to Kelsie and downright nasty to Riko at times. Tall with dark hair like his siblings, but green eyes.

Background: Kelsie is the youngest of three children born to a couple living on Ablatas. Having an interest in magic from an early age, she began to study bloodmagic while her two brothers went into the Hands. While she was snubbed by Raven, she was very attached to her older brother, and so when he fled Ablatas, she followed him. She was accepted readily into the Mages' Guild, mostly for the talent with fire magic that set an entire building ablaze with the onset of her first period, not long after her arrival in the city. During her apprenticeship, she's made a few friends that have come and gone, but most interesting to note is the Guildmaster's personal supervision of her training. She's recently been appointed to Lithrk for translation purposes and testing Lithrik and Oz's battle dolls.

    Teslian "Stripe" Nikado
    Age: 36
    Gender: Male
    Species: Human/elf hybrid
    Height: 6'4"
    Weight: 150 lbs
    Blood type: O
    Birthdate: Natori 1 (November 3)

Appearance: A battle hardened warrior. He's tall and slightly fleshed out, but with almost unnoticeable elven features. His hair is brown with black stripes in it, reaching down to his shoulderblades. His face usually bears painted-on stripes as well while he's on duty, hence his Patroller name. There is a collection of scars from more active days covering his torso and upper arms. He used to wear his hair in a ponytail while looking for his long-lost sister, but now it usually remains down around his shoulders. His eyes are a mystifying forest green which often seem to be hiding his thoughts. He sticks to nondescript clothing, usually in earthen tones, in order to blend in better with a crowd; his facial markings are identification enough for those that need it. His weapon of choice is an old, curved sword which has been carefully kept in good condition.

    Picture

    Guild/Rank: Knight, master Patroller

Personality: Socialized as a Chaosian, Teslian's people skills are often rather poor, and this sometimes leads him to doing things others might find rude or just illogical. Although he usually prefers solving cases and problems by himself, he does work rather well with his partner or their two journeymen. He's usually serious, but upfront and a bit lacking in tact, preferring to meet things head-on (albeit sometimes with encouragement from his bond). Occasionally his mischevious streak shows (again usually with encouragement from the irrepressable Roybealle) and he does have a sense of humor at times. He prefers to show mercy to opponents and criminals, but Chaos can really set him on edge, particularly mages or Justices. He's been fighting almost as long as he's been breathing, so it's something he understands very well and enjoys.

    Family
    Mother: Tabria Misharl, warrior, deceased
    Father: Attor Laharl, bloodmage, deceased
    Siblings: Teslia, deceased
Other Familial Ties: Adopted father, Nikado, wife Jaiorin, children Damane and Trelai, in-law family of the Teros

Background: See this post for the full story. Teslian was born on Chaos Island to a bloodmage and Hand, and spent his youth in the lower levels of Dralche, mostly picking fights and brawling nonstop. Until one day, when a strange half-dead man washed up on the shore. The stranger, even in that condition, managed to best four of Teslian's brawling friends at once without breaking a sweat. Entrhalled by the man's power, Teslian gave him food and a place to hide in exchange for training in the man's mysterious power. The man, Nikado, told him about the world of Shadow Star and slowly pulled him away from Chaos. Shortly before they were to leave Chaos Isle, Nikado was found by Chaosian scouts and executed, leaving Teslian to take his sister and escape.

Upon arriving in Shadow Star, Teslian and his sister were taken in by a Patroller named Aizaem, who inducted him into the Patrol. Teslian earned his mastery twelve years ago, after the death of his master, but only had a brief reprive before his sister abruptly vanished nine years ago.

He believed his younger sister was kidnapped and killed by Chaos and spent years tracking down her grave. It was quite a shock to find that Teslia was alive and turned from a stubborn, idealistic child to a manic, sadistic killer. When A~na finally put an end to Teslia's tortuous ways, Stripe was by her side. He took her back home and buried her on Shadow Star.

Since then, he's stayed in Cascadia with Jaiorin, taking her as an apprentice and later as a wife, despite the interference of a certain Justice. He was also reunited with his long-lost father and best friend, and now juggles his time between the Patrol and his family.

    Bond

    Bond type: Water dragon
    Bond name: Roybealle
    Already Bonded, Common Bond
    Sire/dam: unknown

Appearence: He's a golden yellow, with darker brown accents highlighting his (in his mind) perfect form. He is almost effeminite in his mannerisms, but with an air of grace, although a bit on the broad-shouldered and buff side. His eyes are black and sly, rarely without a twinkle, and his claws are equally pitch-black.

Bond personality: Roybealle is a bit of a narcissist, a firm believer in his own beauty and that of those he associates with. In addition, he's a major playboy, er, playdragon toward anything more beautiful than him, regardless of gender or species. HE HATES UGLY THINGS. Despite his seemingly silly attitude, he has more sense than Stripe in certain areas and often acts as a conscience for the Patroller when he's doing something stupid.

    Ability: Merge into one body.

    Jaiorin Tero
    Age: 25
    Gender: Female
    Species: 1/4 giant, 3/4 human
    Height: 6' 2"
    Weight: 170 lbs
    Birthdate: Nuartoirc 43 (May 2)

Appearance: Not *quite* as massive as her brother, but still pretty well built nonetheless. Not overly built, but well-muscled. Her dark brown hair is often worn in a short braid to keep (most of) it out of her face and her matching eyes. She's not overly pretty, actually rather plain and slightly tomboyish. She often has a no-nonsense look around her. She tends to dress for the farm, often in overalls, and rarely wears fancy things if she can avoid it. She usually carries a stout longbow which she won ina contest as her weapon, giving her her Patroller name. It's almost as tall as her, but years of practice with bows allows her to string the bow with ease, when it's doubtful if others could bend the stout wood at all.

    Picture

    Guild/Rank: journeyman Patroller

Personality: Jaiorin is the practical half of the twins, often with a rather dry and sarcastic voice. She's very hardworking and doesn't approve of laziness, and has a protective streak a mile wide. She also has a softer side which doesn't come out as often and can be rather motherly when treating the injured. The easiest way to get on her bad side is to threaten her family or any children. Her temper rarely emerges, but when it does it's usually at bad times. She has a bitter hatred for Chaos. She's not shy about speaking her mind, and has been known to forcefully knock common sense into people. She's quite tomboyish and isn't really in touch with any sense of femininity.

    Siblings:

  • Koshu
    Age: 25 (twin)
    Occupation: Bard Guildmaster
Description: The elder and less serious twin, who takes after his father more than he realizes. See his profile for more information.
  • Hoti
    Age: 22
    Occupation: farmer
Description: The man of the house in Koshu's absence, also one of the caretakers of the farm. Serious, especially about the farm, and possessing an agile mind.

  • Jirdan
    Age: 16
    Occupation: none
Description: The most feminine of the three girls, Jirdan's hobbies include makeup, fashion, and cute boys. She's generally pleasant unless she happens to be within thirty feet of Jorsha.

Background: Their father died when Jaiorin was about eleven. She had rough times with some of the other village kids; fortunately, her twin brother watched out for her until he left after the accident with Alan. Since then, she had to mature into an independant and capable individual. She came to rely a lot on Teslian, the mysterious Patroller who stayed with their family for a while, and followed him back to the city. Driven by her hate of Chaos, she entered the Patrol under Teslian's care, and since then her hate has been dulled by a greater sense of Justice. Making friends in the large city, she's adapted well, and eventually married Teslian and bore twins.

    Bond

    Bond type: phoenix
    Bond name: Kaynal
Already Bonded, Common Bond (Realm Warriors)
    Sire/dam: Burinal/Zienal

Appearence: Somewhat small and not overly strong, but rather wiry and agile. He's covered in uniform dark purple flames and has serious light blue eyes.

Bond personality: Kaynal's calmed down a bit since his chick days, adapting to some of Jaiorin's sensibilities and warm nature. A bit more carefree in a Teslian-like way, he still has a few neuroses and can be prone to crises of self-esteem. He still refuses to wear riding straps.

    Ability: Deflecting/neutralizing Chaosian spontaneous magic.

    Mahja Ris
    Age: 1164
Gender: Male (most of the time, anyway)
    Species: Demon
    Height: 5' 2"
    Weight: 131
    Blood type: O
    Birthdate: Nadinu 12 (November 14)

Appearance: As a demon, he can shapeshift, but he tends to stick with one humanesque appearance. Short and skinny, but moderately well-toned, he looks rather feminine. His gait and appearance scream "crossdresser", even when he's in pants. His hair is cropped short in a bowl-like cut, with two long pieces hanging down almost like drooping antennae. Bangs often cover his right eye. If he's not in skirts (a favorite pasttime, especially if they're short) he can be caught in mesh, leather, or some other extremely odd type of fashion. As a demon, he disdains physical weapons except in use during torture. In a fight, his mastery of bloodmagic and Chaotic energy is quite enough. His trueform, which has been mostly lost to time and convenient deaths of the few who knew, is surprisingly beautiful, a dark-haired and dark-skinned androgynous figure bestowed with both sets of genetalia.

    Picture
    Picture 2

    Guild/Rank: Chaos's Justice

Personality: Mahja considers himself the epitome of the predator the Lady made demons to be. The trait over all that he prides himself on is control. At all times he maintains control over his prey, manipulating them into doing what he wants even when they don't realize it. He tends to be arrogant toward most of the lesser species, and doesn't particularly trust Unitarian defects to Chaos, either. His hobbies? Torture, and sleeping with just about anything of the male persuasion.

    Family

Mother: Lau Ris (maiden name: Abandes)
    Occupation: Hand of the Goddess
    Age: Deceased
    Father: Uldric Ris
    Occupation: Bloodmage
    Age: Deceased
    Siblings: None

Family history: The Ris clan is of average standing among the demon politics of Chaos Island. However, with the leaders' only child irrevokably gay and uninterested in producing an heir, the clan has become split among the various cousins vying for power and trying to hold the clan together.

Background: A demonmage distanced from family and colleagues and without any particular loyalty to his clan, Mahja's birth was rough, which rumor says drove him off of women. He worked his way into power doing what he does best, in order to continue doing what he does best, and eventually captured the Chaos's Justices, trimming the fat and making them into a well-trained secret service as much on the patrol for internal traitors as well as external. At one point, he and Kurai were engaged in a political union, but come a few upsets of power and it was mutually agreed that it was impractical.

    Bond

    Bond type: demonsteed
    Bond name: Jalus
Already Bonded (Chaos class), royal bond
    Sire/Dam: Unknown

Appearance: Like all royal bonds, she is mostly black, with red frosting along the bones of her wings, along with a splatter pattern of red along her hind legs. She's average in size and build for a mare. Occasionally, she can be found wearing some inane accessory merely to annoy Mahja.

Bond personality: At times, Jalus seems to live merely to annoy her bonded, who sees her as some kind of test sent by the Lady. She's loud and boisterous, with a rebellious spirit that rears around every now and then, usually when Mahja is least expecting it. She has just as big a libido as him, but she'll attempt to do anything that moves. Including her bond.

Ability: Determining the alignment of a person; seeing which god they serve.

    Kishu
Age: Year and a half. Physically appears to be in his early to mid twenties.
    Gender: Male
Species: A little bit of everything--gnome, kender, dragoon, demon, anthro, elemental, mer, and angel are just a few traits he shows.
    Height: 5' 2"
    Weight: 137 lbs.
    Birthdate: Nadinu 18 (November 20)

Appearance: Slightly small for a human or elf, scrawny looking overall, and slightly androgynous. Tufted purple-blue furred ears sit out among limp, scraggly black shoulder-length hair which is beginnning to acquire lighter streaks. Wide red eyes and a small nose are set in a childlike face coated with tanned skin. His small hands have long fingers, which are tipped with small claws; whereas his feet are clawed and scaled in black like a dragoon's feet, the scales reaching as far as mid-shin. He also has a tail of the same color as his ears, long and thin, which is never still.

Sporadically, he will sprout wings, black bat-like ones partially colored with purple-blue feathers. They are too small to sustain flight and are really only good for gliding. When underwater, he sometimes acquires fins along his forearms, the same purple-blue as his fur and feathers, and webbing between his digits.

Kishu tends to dress plainly, with shirts or tunics that have flaps in the back in case his wings show up. He doesn't carry any weapons.

    Picture

    Guild/Rank: None.

Personality: Kishu's personality can be as erratic as his powers. One minute he's bouncy and almost kender-like, the next he's depressed and in tears. He's adapted fairly well to Cascadian life, exploring everywhere and making new friends. He places a very high value on his own life and is terrified of being killed or forced to do another's will. Otherwise, Kishu is a lost child who knows things about the world but doesn't really understand them. His mixed-up blood randomly gives him recollections and impressions from past lives which tend to only confuse him more.

In addition, his hodgepodge of traits gives him various abilities which come and go more randomly than his moods. They include such things as a kender's ability (and urges) to pickpocket, a gnome's animal-speaking abilities (which he usually fails to recognize as such and passes it off as strange voices), a touch of human or elf empathy (again, which he fails to recognize), and a chaotic elemental's ghostsight (and again, he fails to notice as ghostsight). His demonic blood allows him to shapeshift wings or fins, again at random, though the latter can occasionally be triggered by immersion in water. A nice assortment of lower-level abilities; too bad he doesn't seem to have any sort of way of controlling his powers.

    Family

"Mother"/creator: Ilea Karath, 825, demon Chaotic magess specializing in necromancy and fleshcrafting.
    Siblings: Shyling, another fleshcraft creation.

Background: Ilea was a talented mage who'd had centuries of experience in necromancing. Recently, she had decided to try something a bit different and broke into the unexplored arts of fleshcrafting. She gathered whatever materials she could find; dead chaosians, live slaves. After several failed attempts, she managed to cobble together a humanoid chimaera and made it her personal slave. She had high aspirations for her creation, infused with a dozen different talents, as a powerful war machine, but unfortunately her creation had too much Unitarian blood in it and rebelled.

So, she killed him and started over again. Upon creating her second attempt, she made it very clear who had control over its life through terror and abuse. Kishu was appropriately cowed and terrified; Ilea's complete control over his life created a deep desire for freedom, and despair as he realized he couldn't escape. His only solace lay in the name he gave himself.

Then, Ilea was abruptly killed in a freak accident when a stalagtite fell from a cave roof, crushing her. Kishu immediately fled as far away from her as he could, reached the Chaosian coastline, and swam away, with no real destination, just a terrible urge to get away fueled by a deathly fear. A week later, he washed up on the shores of Shadow Star, half-starved, scared, and exhausted.

He bonded not long after entering Cascadia, and with his bond to watch over him, he mostly helps Tsinao mind the energetic Riitalla while his bond has an apprenticeship at the Artisan's Guild.

    Bond

    Bond type: gryphon
    Bond name: Krishnae
Already Bonded (Unity Crusaders), Common Bond
    Sire/Dam: Wild gryphon

Appearance: Off-white fur and feathers, striped in a tiger-like design with light honey-brown stripes. His claws and beak are a slightly darker golden-brown and his eyes are a clear and sharp and of a forest green color. Krishnae has an average build but prides himself on being strong.

Bond personality: Krishnae is haughty, impatient, somewhat of a 'tough guy' and a touch arrogant, although he's managed to learn to reign in some of those traits. Although he can be rather antagonistic to his bonded (who returns it), he does actually care about the "younger" boy and can be rather nuturing in times of need or in private. He has an independant streak to match his bond's, and refuses to be treated as a common animal. Krishnae likes working with his claws, which has led him to wood carving.

Ability: Breaking curses and enchantments. It's useless against any spontaneous magic, only spells that have been laid in advance.

    Kaso Tero
    Age: 20
    Gender: Male
    Species: 3/4 human, 1/4 giant
    Height: 5' 11"
    Birthdate: Loirym 45 (September 17)

Appearance: Kaso is rather thin and looks like he never finished his growth spurt. He's tall in odd places, giving him a gangly gait. Physically, he is the weakest of the elder siblings, although the physical demands of acolyte training have helped bring out some of his bloodline's strength. He has short, thick hair of a reddish orange color, usually neatly combed and kept in place by absent sweeps. He wears thick-rimmed metal-framed glasses which he is often pushing up. His eyes are hazel colored and there's a rare freckle around his cheeks from his teenage years. He's very slightly tanned, not nearly as much as his older sister, but darker than his eldest brother. Most often, he dresses in plainly, or in acolyte robes. His weapon of choice is a swordbreaker he received from Riko as a birthday present.

    Picture

    Guild/Rank: Acolyte druid of Aeryon

Personality: Kaso isn't exactly the social type--although he's polite enough, strangers tend to make him uncomfortable. He's lost some of the self-consciousness and self-deprecation he used to have, but still doesn't expect too much of himself. He's often wary, but around friends his rather cynical sense of wit comes out. Despite his lack of confidence, he is actually quite intelligent and has done well at teaching himself. Knowledge and strategy are his strong points. He secretly wants to earn respect through his deeds, but often is content to blend in with the crowd. He's friendly enough, and unbiased and fair in dealing with people, but he tends to avoid figures more powerful than him out of fear. He loves his family very much, enough to bring out a dangerous recklessness if they are threatened. Kaso also has a deep fondness for nature.

    Siblings:

  • Koshu
    Age: 25 (twin)
    Occupation: Bard Guildmaster
Description: The elder and less serious twin, who takes after his father more than he realizes. See his profile for more information.
  • Jorsha
  • Rista (f), Morian (f), Keshalan(m)
    Age: 14 (triplets)
    Occupation: none/none/apprentice Knight
Description: Even with one of them spending time at the barracks while the other two are back on the farm, the three never feel far apart. Keshalan is a rowdy, naively fearless teen and the leader of his two sisters. He has a strong sense of justice and isn't afraid of anything, even when he should be. Taking after his eldest brother a lot, he's easy to like, isn't shy, but can have a harsh temper if provoked. Rista, often the connector between Keshalan and Morian, is gentle and sweet and fond of animals. Her responsibilities on the far include taking care of the livestock. She wants to bond one day. Morian is a friendly child who likes to smile, but she rarely if ever speaks, preferring to let her siblings do the talking. She has a crush on the group's friend, Jeremie.

  • Family history: Katori's line is a longtime native of the small village in which the Tero clan resides. No one is really sure where Binarsh came from; some say he was from the mountains. Binarsh and Katori swiftly fell in love and were married, much to the disgust of the homophobic village.

Background: Kaso grew up with his family in a secluded village that was destroyed a couple years ago. As a child growing up on a farm, he developed a love for the natural world which was encouraged by a wandering druid who stayed with his family when he was young. The druid taught him some basic elemental magic and a bit of animal tongues before he moved on. Kaso was self-taught from then on out, becoming fluent in most common animals and gaining some rudimentary skills speaking to fire creatures despite having little access to such creatures. When his family moved to the city, he went about trying to find a new master.

    Bond

    Bond type: Kyushi
    Bond name: Liish
    Already Bonded, Common Bond
    Sire/Dam: Unknown

Appearance: Speckled and sparkly all over, in various dark shades of reds, blues, purples and pinks. She is lithe and streamlined. Her claws are obsidian black and her pupils are dark sapphire blue. She prefers to be furred for the purposes of petting and grooming.

Bond Personality: Liish is a bit pampered, prefering the easy life and the finer things. She's a romantic, often flamboyant, and pursues her interests with a deep and intense focus, but usually bounces between several interests at once. She's often trying to get the more serious Kaso to lighten up, kick back and relax, and try new things.

Ability: Restraining a person, making them unable to move or cast magic. They can only hold one person at a time, and they have to stay focused on that person to hold them.

    Riitalla Cassandra Vasence
    Age: 9
    Gender: Female
    Species: Formerly human, now...gnomish armor?
    Height: 3' 6"
    Weight: 32 lbs
    Birthdate: Llocdaerd 8 (September 26)

Appearance: Before The Accident, she was an energetic, dark-haired little girl. Now, her physical form is that of a suit of armor, made of silver alloy. Made for a gnome, the armor is short and somewhat slender, a rather plain and practical fullplate, lacking studs or spikes, but built for complete cover and flexibility. She's metal from head to toe, except for her gloves, which are leather with metal straps embedded where the back of the hand would lie. Her only article of clothing is a pouched belt where she carries a doll her father made her, and a few other assorted accessories. She doesn't carry weapons; her body is durable enough, she wouldn't know how to use a weapon, and her main fighting tactic is to fling erratic psy-blasts.

Guild/Rank: Mage, apprentice, psymage (pink rank)

Personality: Even with all the bad things that have happened to her, Riitalla is still just as innocent and cheery a child as she has always been. Optimistic to a fault, she has little sense of responsibility and prefers to play all day; thankfully, most everything she views as a game. She rarely shows a real comprehension of what's happened to her. Like any child, she is subject to outbursts and temper tantrums, but overall is bright and friendly. She is very fond of her father and takes care of him, as well as her adopted 'brother' Tsinao. Losing her body, unfortunately, has only served to make it easier to access her erratic psychic powers, making them more uncontrollable.

    Family

    Mother: Poria Vasenze, psy-mage, deceased
    Father: Japet Vasenze, craft-mage, 46
    Siblings: None

Background: Riitalla was the only daughter of Japet and Poria. At an early age, Poria experienced an accident with her powers in front of her family and violently exploded, leaving her despondent husband, a gentle and unsure dreamer, to raise their child. Despite his cluelessness, he did his best to care for the precocious child, working at his craft-shop. Even as early as six, Riitalla showed the beginnings of her mother's talents. Fearful of losing his daughter in the same way, Japet had her enrolled in the guild as an apprentice. Being only six, it was hard for the teachers to keep her attention, and she would often wander the building, lost, when she should be in class.

It was on one of those lost days not too long ago she wandered into a room she shouldn't have been in. A group of warmages was attempting to summon a famous warrior's spirit from the dead. While true ressurection was impossible for mere mortals, they hoped to bind his spirit into an enchanted suit of amor made for the occasion. Just as the spell was being completed, Riitalla burst into the room: her body was disintegrated, her spirit bound into the armor, and to add insult to injury, the warrior's spirit was lost. When her father was told of the accident, his body collapsed on him, and he is now in the Healer's guildhall being treated. It wasn't too long after that Riitalla found Tsinao and adopted him. Currently her father lives in the countryside for his health, and Tsinao and Kishu watch over the little girl.

Called 'Zukath' by demons, calls himself 'Tsinao'.
    Age: 52
Gender: It technically has no gender, but since it displays more masculine traits it refers to itself as a he.
    Species: Artificial soul
    Birthdate: Natori 32 (January 19)

Appearance: In his 'natural' form, Tsinao has no physical body of any use. He appears as as a luminescent blue pearl-like orb, about the size of a marble. In this form, he can literally do nothing, although psychics can still communicate with him. However, when inserted into the mouth of a creature (or some sort of effigy that resembles a living creature), he gains the ability to utilize that body as if it were his own, and is able to move around and communicate. His current form is that of a stuffed, patchwork calico cat, about the size of a real cat, colored in white cotton with overlaying patches of brown, red and orange patches of various materials.

    Guild/Rank: None

Personality: A bit of a tough guy, Tsinao is stubbornly independant at times and hates relying on others. He's slow to trust and make friends. He has two moods: serious and annoyed. Loudmouthed at times and a bit on the selfish side, he prefers to act in his own best interests and staunchily refuses to join in anything related to the Shadow Star/Chaos conflicts, tired of being a part of "those stupid little wars". He hates being manipulated and only likes fighting if he's in an appropriate body, although he's a decent brawler due to years of training and fighting. In a suited body, he can be a bit of an exhibitionist, showing off for anyone who will pay attention. Despite his obvious flaws, he actually is quite mature and has kind of adopted the duty of watching over the hapless Riitalla.

    Family

"Father": Lithrik Karath, demon, 693, warmage researcher
    Siblings: None
Other Family of note: "Cousin" Kishu

Background: Tsinao began over a hundred years ago as a thought. A pure soul, unbound by physical restraints, able to be molded into the exact specifcations to match the needs of a weapon for Chaos. The identification given to him by his creator, the dreamy, whiny younger brother to fleshcrafter Ilea, Zukath, meant 'weapon' in demontongue. After years and years of failed experiments, Lithrik finally succeeded in making his programmed artificial soul. Having no physical body was a severe limitation, Lithrik realized. However, through testing he realized that the artificial soul had even greater potential. If inserted into a living creature, the original creature's soul was essentially thrust out and his Zukath could then take control of the creature's body. The ousted spirits would eventually become detatched from the body, become ghosts or moved on to the next world. Moreover, his Zukath could also reanimate corpses. Being used as a weapon for war never sat really well with him, but being programmed to be loyal, he did as he was told, expecting decent treatment and respect in return.

Unfortunately, it was eventually determined by higher ups, most likely as a political move, that the Zukath had no purpose. Lithrik fell from grace and his Zukath was ordered terminated. Tsinao, who was currently in a demon's body, was shaken from his basic foundations and fled for his life, to Shadow Star. A gold-eyed demon is hardly the best form for wandering around Shadow Star; in Cascadia he was eventually run down and hacked to pieces by a group of knights. The death of his body didn't have any negative effects on Tsinao; however, without a working body he was stuck where the pieces of his body had been dumped in a gutter. Without any way of sensing time, he wasn't sure how long had passed before the young psy Riitalla sensed his presence and managed to recover him, placing him in a stuffed cat her mother had made. She's now helping him search for a new body he can keep.

    Kiel "Ribbon" Brand
    Age: 29
    Gender: Male
    Species: Human
    Height: 5' 9"
    Weight: 157 lbs.
    Birthdate: April 5 (Nuatoirc 17)

Appearance: Of average height and build, the thing that is most readily noticeable about him is his long ponytail of straight brown hair, reaching almost to his knees. Normally, however, it's pinned up in a messy loop, mostly only being down when he's not working, or when he's working some more underground jobs. On those, the ribbons that give him his codename are woven into his hair. Despite the long hair, he doesn't look effeminite or girly at all, and seems to exude a manly aura. He has violet eyes that usually have a twinkle in them, and dresses practically, with sturdy boots, kirlath pants and a tunic. For weapons, he carries a whip and a garotte for quieter jobs.

Guild/Rank: Jack of all trades. From part time waiter to day laborer to more unsavory tasks like bounty hunter, chances are he's done most of them.

Personality: Always quick with a smile and a joke, Kiel almost always acts as if he hasn't got a care in the world, even while doing distasteful or difficult tasks. He's ever the charmer around the ladies, with a flirtatious flair, even if it's occasionally unintentional. Although he's friendly with everyone, he trusts few people. Through everything, he carries an air of confident dignity, and he thinks rather highly of himself at times. He can be serious, and he can be and has been hurt, but he refuses to show his weaknesses to everyone. He's been forced to become very self-reliant, and dislikes the thought of being beholden to anyone. No longer having to be miserly with money, he prefers to be generous, although his old habits are hard to kick.

    Family

    Father: Jace Brand
    Age: 51
    Occupation: Jack of all trades
Description: 'Outrageous' might be a good word to sum up Jace, Kiel's father. Melodramatic, slightly lecherous, and perhaps a little too fond of his son, it's easy to see where Kiel gets his ego from, as well as some of his talents. Jace's over the top mannerisms occasionally cause friction between him and the rest of the family, who is more down to earth. A rugged-looking man, he's dark-haired and green-eyed, sporting a bit of stubble and occasionally a goatee.
Mother: Rasmahn Brand (maiden name Penzix)
    Age: 49
Occupation: Jack of all trades, street fighter
Description: The ice to Jace's fire, she tends to be the discipline of the family, and won't hesitate to smack around both husband and son if needed. She started her early years as a street brawler and moved her way up from there. A fairly attractive woman, she has long orangeish hair and cool blue eyes.
    Siblings: Adopted brother Baki
    Age: 16
    Occupation: Apprentice artisan
Description: Baki's had his rough times, but he's livened up a lot since being in a more supportive home. Kiel teases the strawberry blonde about being "girly"; Baki dislikes fighting and most manly pursuits and has recently taken up an appenticeship to learn proper sewing and embroidery. He has a gryphon bond in the Bard's Guild, Okparae.

Background: The Brand family's troubles began with Kiel's great grandfather, whose parents were caught and enslaved by a demon who was studying compulsion magics. A greedy sort, he offered Kiel's great grandfather a high ransom to get his parents back. Despite all the great grandfather's efforts, he couldn't pay off the ransom in time and his debts were passed onto Kiel's grandfather. Kiel's grandparents expected to fail, and although they made regular payments, they distanced themselves from their son, Jace, whom they considered the cause of their doom. When the burden was passed onto him, he ran from it, swearing never to fall in love and have a child. Unfortunately, things don't always work out that well. He met Rasmahn, whom he fell in love with against his will. She was supposed to be sterile, but against all odds, she bore a child, Kiel.

Despite the fact that Kiel's fifteenth birthday would be the day the demon came for the two of them, Jace and Rasmahn raised Kiel with love and care, forming a strong bond with their son. He bonded Kaitt when he was fourteen, not long before his parents were taken. Vowing to get them back, Kiel began working like a man possessed, doing anything and everything he could to make a tana. He's only very recently made enough to pay off the debt of his family after a large, risky gamble on the kickboxer Jade.

Since getting his parents freed thanks to the efforts of Baki and Elakhi, Kiel's gone into semi-retirement, content to live with his parents and new younger brother.

    Bond

    Bond type: equine
Bond name: Kaitt (pronounced like 'kite')
Already bonded (unknown class), Common Bond

Appearance: She's about the size of an average horse, and rather average-horse looking; she's mostly black, with a white patch on her forehead and stockings (white markings up to the knees).

Personality: Kaitt is stubborn, forceful, and often blunt. Once focused on a task, she pursues it with a singleminded intensity. She's incredibly possessive over Kiel, but isn't afraid to punch a few holes in his ego, either. She rarely talks to other people outside her bond, preferring to masquerade as a plain horse.

Ability: Creating an obscuring mist which limits sight and magical tracking.

    "Twilight" Nikado
    Age: Chronologically 66; physically, 46
    Gender: Male
    Species: Human ("half-elemental")
    Height: 6'0
    Weight: 168 lbs.
    Birthdate: Hyrab 30 (June 4)

Appearance: At just around six feet, he's fairly tall but not particularly imposing, with an average-sized build that's well-toned from decades of training and work, and doesn't show his age--either of them. His black hair is long, about to the small of his back, and rather thin; it's usually pulled into a tight, thin ponytail, although a few strands usually escape to hang in the front. Nikado's face and complexion are rather Asian, and his expressive, dark blue eyes always seem to have a twinkle in them, even in the worst of situations. If his shirt is off, one can see a scar right above the heart. However, the most noticeable phyiscal feature, when he's not got it covered up, is the pitch-black Chaotic energy that is his legs, streaking up his back, and covering most of his right arm as well. For that reason, he tends to wear pants and boots that cover his legs adequately, and long-sleeved tunics, with the notable addition of a glove over his right hand. Not because he's particularly bothered, but he wouldn't want to go spooking the crowds. Too often, anyway.

    Guild/Rank: Master Patroller/Patrolmaster

Personality: There are many words you can use to describe Nikado. "Angsty" "Serious" and "Certainly Not Annoying" are not among them. Always determined to face life's worst with a smile, Nikado does his best to make light of most situations, although he does know when to cut the jokes and face a problem. Under all the jokes, teasing, melodrama, and occasional snark from his well-tuned sense of sarcasm, he's a rather down-to-earth and sensible individual, unassuming, lacking ambition, and generally very comfortable with who and what he is. He takes most of life in stride and it's very difficult to arouse his anger, although he's not above being melodramatic or whiny in his own teasing way. A bit of a social butterfly, he makes friends easily, and can often be rather nosy and meddlesome. He's *mostly* a moral and decent person, but he still retains a dark edge and ruthlessness from his Chaosian heritage, which he has no intention of ever losing. Because of his ordeals, his sense of touch, particularly his sense of pain, is very dull. He can absorb Chaotic energy from other Chaosians, but the more he takes into his own body, the more uncontrollable it gets.

  • Adopted son, Teslian, 36, Patroller
  • Son, Tosh, 35?, none
  • Background: The Knights' Guild's records from the Age of Darkness could most likely tell you about Nikado's parents, probably right down to whether it was they who defected to Chaos or their parents before them. Nikado, however, remembers little if anything about them, and doesn't know Talira is his younger sister. Apprenticed into the guild almost as soon as he could walk, first as an errand boy and then as a page, Nikado often got bored with some of the more intellectual lessons but discovered he had a love of brawling. It is perhaps partly to this that he was ever assigned to the Dralk Miut in the first place, although the naciron that reassigned him told him to spy for Chaos on potential traitors.

That miut, under Rehanin Arrowcinder, would later become the Patrol. Although he was tempted to report them multiple times for possible treason, he found himself slowly being turned away from Chaos by Rehanin, Nikado's partner in the Patrol named Aizaem, and a defecting demon on the run named Yasmin. He became fully committed to the Patrol and his 'family' in it, adopting the codename "Twilight" for his work; neither entirely dark, but not quite light, either.

All was well and good, until a Justice named Talch, investigating the Patrol, found him. He was taken from Shadow Star on a ship to Chaos to be tried, but managed to escape overboard and ended up washing up a few days later onto the shore of Chaos Island. There, he was "befriended" by a Chaosian youth by the name of Teslian, who hid the older man in exchange for training. Nikado spent nearly a year there before being discovered by Talch's scouts.

Talch was not a patient man, nor did he tolerate being made a fool of. He was, however, a collector of enchanted items and various other trinkets. Taking a sword with a stasis spell on it to prevent breakage, he had the spell modified, and then drove the sword into Nikado's chest in a public execution. The spell kept his entire body in stasis, forcing him to experience a lethal moment's pain for the next twenty years.

The Justice was later killed in a political movement, leaving the house abandoned for several years. It was a pair of demon mages, Ilea and Lithrik, who finally managed to disarm some of the traps and get into the back wings where thieves had not yet looted, and found the still-preserved body. With Ilea's help, Lithrik managed to remove the sword, and began plans for his next weapon. It was Lithrik who converted half of Nikado's body into Chaotic energy, and brought him to Shadow Star with the intention of testing his new weapon on Cascadia. Thankfully, Nikado and Lithrik were found and stopped by a group of druids and Patrollers, allowing Nikado to be returned to his former life.

One thing that can be said of Nikado is that he doesn't hold back at living. His hands have been full since he rejoined the Patrol, starting with his adoption of an unwilling partner, Sareen, and the taking of two apprentices out of Red Torch, Aluka and Jo. Aluka is currently under Shaol, with no love lost between the two masters, and Jo has recently become a royal on top of things. Nikado also actively interferes, er, aids in Teslian and Danny's training of their apprentices, and graded them on a mission that got them promoted to journeymen. While investingating the corruption of the Knight's Guild, he became the official face of the Patrol and remained on the Council after most of its members were arrested, although a heart attack has forced him to share the load with Yasmin and Sareen. His most recent adventures have included taunting the entire Chaos council and travelling to Chaos to rescue his kidnapped grandchildren and Aluka.

    Bond

    Bond type: flamecat
    Bond name: Rashonal
In training (Cascadian Avengers), Common Bond

Appearance: He's quite large for a flamecat, thick and muscular, a reddish-ginger color overall with black tips. He's missing half of his left ear, and a few scars from years of street living are barely visible under his medium-length fur. His eyes are mismatched--the right his natural green, the left a golden color from a Chaosian bloodmage's tinkering. His vision in that eye is reduced to light/dark difference, just barely giving him an odd depth perception. He never purrs, only growls, and his roar is more like a tiger's than a lion's.

Personality: He's the cloud to Nikado's sunshine, with a rather Murphy-like view on life. Rough and clever from two decades of life on lower Cascadian streets, he harbors a dislike of Chaos and Chaosians that has been downgraded from "extreme hate" thanks to time with Nikado. Although he gets overprotective when his bond is in trouble and will work with his bond on Patrol duties, he retains his independance from Nikado, holding his own job as a bouncer in a bar and informant for the Patrol. He often defies Nikado's orders if he disagrees with them.

Ability: Psychometry--the ability to absorb knowledge by touching people or things. It's not controllable, works subconsciously, and is always on.

    Zayr Enesse A'osut
Age: "I'm 65, cath it! Not twelve!"
    Gender: Male
    Species: Human
    Height: 4'11"
    Weight: 105 lbs.
    Birthdate: Loirym 5 (August 8)

Appearance: Your average twelve year old boy, or so one would think. Fairly pale-skinned with a smattering of freckles (which he HATES), he keeps his wild, spiky red-orange hair trimmed short and out of the way of his very dark green eyes which focus on a target with piercing intensity. He is quite strong for his age (which isn't saying much) due to regular workouts and built fairly average due to it. When he gets overly excited or angry, his voice sometimes cracks. At all times he is in his uniform marking him as a master Knight of Land and the Scuiri Miut's naciron, the insignia displayed prominently to better direct people's attention to. He carries a short sword which is really more proportionate to a longsword, built for his smaller stature.

Guild/Rank: Master Knight of Land, Scuiri Miut (naciron)

Personality: Normally calm and impartial to the point of apathy, there is little Zayr cares for outside of his miut. Overall, he tends to be about as warm and fuzzy as a brick to the forehead, but he does have a certain sort of fatherly sympathy for the Knights under his command. He avoids attachments and shuns all pleasure, or anything outside his Knight duties. Intelligent and an excellent tactician, he tends to remain neutral in most affairs and prefers strategy to straightforward action. He doesn't like being treated like a child, but he's gotten used to it; it's ironic that he's uncomfortable with all the attention he's been getting from within the Guild recently. He dislikes mages in general, for both causing his curse and not being able to end it, and prefers to avoid politics and Guild involvement, although lately they've been finding him. Ironically, he is one of the nacirons that is most friendly toward the Patrol, as they are more likely to notice his master rank than his apparent age.

    Family

Mother: Kathlyn A'osut (maiden name Wilden), housewife, deceased
Father: Tanser A'osut, master Knight of Land (Equine Miut), deceased
    Siblings:

  • Dantai A'osut, master Archer (Falcon Asam, missilemaster), 71
  • Omith A'osut, apartment landlord (Blue Roof Apartments), 68
  • Jisel A'osut, master Artisan, 67

  • Other Familial Ties:
  • Ex-wife Trallia Ismola, master Bard (performer), 60
  • Son Leil Ismola, squire Knight of Water (Sijaer Miut), 37
  • Background: Zayr was born to fairly normal parents in the Age of Darkness, following his father and eldest brother into the Guild, as was expected of him. Normal apprenticeship, normal upbringing right into a normal mastery right at thirty-six. All perfectly normal. He was placed in an arranged marriage, but grew to love his wife, and she soon became pregnant. Zayr was no spectacular Knight, being only average in skill with a sword, but hard-working and quick-witted. There were rumors that he would become a naciron soon.

Two years later, he was badly hurt in a battle with rebels and left for dead on the battlefield. Chaosian slave traders scoured the grounds, taking all that were still alive for possible trade. His Master Knight's insignia having been burned off during the battle, Zayr's demands to be returned to Cascadia went unheeded, and he was taken to Chaos Isle, where he was then purchased for a warmage in need of a strong, healthy body for an experiment.

Lithrik Karath had been assigned the job of making eternal youth. As most mages will readily tell you, this is an impossible task; Lithrik was already resigned to failure (and death of the experimental subject) until he met the subject in question. Determined to try his best, the demon redoubled his studies and finally came up with a tenative spell. And to the surprise of all involved, it worked.

    Well, sort of.

Zayr's body did indeed become at a fixed age, as it was supposed to. However, the spell also pushed his age backwards into a child's form. The project was hastily declared a failure and Zayr was to be destroyed; however, he managed to escape, stowing away on a ship and making his way back to Cascadia. He discovered he had been missing for several years, and that most of his family had given him up for dead. It took a long time as well as a strategic test with a sloppy evamiut to convince the Guild that he was who he said he was, and even then acceptance was reluctant at best, down to outright belittlement from other Masters, including those younger than him. His wife, remarried now, remained ignorant that he had ever returned, as did her son, who was in the Guild in Cascadia.

Zayr was tossed back into faction politics forcefully when an attempt was made on his life, the first spark of a plot of corruption and treachery that infiltrated the Guild. Marked as a personal target by Pellis K'var, former Sciuri Miut naciron and then a Councilknight, more attempts of harm were fended off against the Sciuris, finally culminating with the arrest of most of the Council. Now, with that in his past and a ciron on the current Council, he is still sought out by other nacirons and remains involved in guild politics whether he likes it or not.

    Pets

    Pet name: Pethel
    Species: Little Bird
Pet description: A cheery and easily exciteable mockingbird that loves to sing and repeat whatever sounds he hears as best he can. Mistaking Zayr for his mother, he is rarely far from 'mom' and can often be found on the Knight's head, shoulder, or in a hip pouch Zayr carries for such an occasion.

    Lithrik Karath
    Age: 694
    Gender: Male
    Species: Demon
    Height: 5' 5"
    Weight: 187 lbs (including wings)
    Birthdate: Nakal 27 (Feburary 28)

Appearance: He's of average-to-short height, around 5' 5", and average-to- slight build, the kind a normal person that spends the day among books has. In his trueform, which he is usually in, his hair is a medium-dark blue, fairly thick and a bit scraggly and often mussed, and his eyes are a dull gold, with plain black pupils. His skin is a leathery brown color, lacking any richness in color, and his long tail is the same color. Larger than normal wings cover his back, a darker blue in color than his hair. It is perhaps his legs and feet that are the most unusual, however; not the standard demon legs and hooves, but more humanesque, with bipedal feet whose soles are coated with a hoof-like coating, like a natural shoe. Due to the difficulty of fitting his taller-than-normal feet in shoes, he usually goes barefoot. He tends to stick to mage robes. The only possession he carries regularly that could be considered a weapon is his bloodpull, a rather thick spike used in bloodmagic to draw out blood.

    Guild/Rank: Mage

Personality: Well...he's not exactly typical demon. Lithrik's rather withdrawn, nonconfrontational and pretty submissive to anyone stronger than him (which is quite a lot of people). Consequently, he doesn't have much self-esteem and doesn't consider himself a 'proper' demon. When he has a mission, however, he pursues it with dogged singlemindedness and recklessness on occasion. A scientist by nature, he's always looking to observe new things and has a deeply- rooted curiousity. It's easy to get him excited with the idea of research and new observations, to the point where common sense can be lost on him. He loves tinkering with life, but he's quite squeamish about killing and doesn't like being around corpses at all.

    Family

    Father: Pathark Karath, necromancer, deceased
    Mother: Ikark Karath, regenerist, 2431
    Siblings: Ilea Karath, necromancer/fleshcrafter, 824

Family background: The Karaths are a small and relatively uninfluential demon clan, all bloodmages, mostly necromancers. They have a legacy of heading the study of necromancy.

Background: By the time Lithrik was born, the 'family' was in the middle of a split between Pathark and Ilea. Lithrik was never really sure why Ilea and Pathark never got along, and his mother could provide no answers, nor any relief from the constant bickering. The fact that Lithrik had no interest in going into the family practice of necromancy due to his corpse-phobia only served to aggravate his father further, so Lithrik spent most of his childhood hiding from the fireworks. In an attempt to feel useful and give some justification for birthing her son, Ikark attempted to teach Lithrik some regeneration magic, and while he took fairly well to it, his heart wasn't really into it. Healing was too linear, too predictable. It wasn't until he discovered the warmages, developers of biological weapons, that he found his calling in tinkering with life. His projects ranged from artificial souls to eternal youth. And then everything went out the window when he went to Shadowstar with his latest project. Through an unusual twist of events, he met Dima and eventually ended up bonded to a kraenon, forcing Chaosian withdrawals. Despite the obvious difficulties of being a demon bloodmage, he was accepted into the Mages' Guild, and was kept busy with making amends for some of his old projects. Having finished that (and lacking Nikado bringing him new assignments) he now works with Oz on a new project. He's also acquired an apprentice, Kelsie, to translate his extensive library.

    Bond

    Bond type: kraenon
    Bond name: Tashahh
Already Bonded (Unicorn Runners), Common Bond
    Sire/dam: Toumamm/Raqiell

Appearance: The baby of the litter, Tashahh is quite small for a kraenon, with large paws and decidedly unusual large floppy ears, combined with a featherbrush tail. She's a uniform ginger color with medium-long fur.

Personality: Sweet and innocent, she's a little pampered and quite sheltered by her littermates and parents. She can be rather childish and spoiled at times, but she has a stubborn streak. Tashahh tends to hear some words and names a little differently than normal, leading her to pronounce them differently, and she's quite 'vocal', barking and growling as much as a normal dog. She doesn't seen to mind battle or possible squick, in an odd fashion like that of of noncomprehension.

Ability: Control over a small amount of Chaotic energy, enough for moderate bloodmagic spells and minor defensive moves.

    Aeun Io Baiora Vlashnovik
    Age: 60
    Gender: Female
Species: Half monkey anthro, half nagham
    Height: 6'1
    Weight: 155 lbs.

Appearance: She's fairly tall, and would have been rather slim if not for her rigorous exercise routine. Thanks to her nagham side, she still appears only middle-aged and not as old as she would be by human or anthro standards. Her hair is a slate blue-gray, falling down to the small of her back, although it's usually tied up somehow in a ponytail or bun, and her eyes are almond-shaped and ginger in color, complimenting a face which looks human enough, but with a bit of exotic nagham touch. Swirled along most of her golden-tanned torso are scales of a very pale blue, mixed with dark red, that fade out along her upper arms and thighs. There's one persistent one along her left wrist that she covers with a bracelet. Her feet aren't normal human feet, but articulated hands like a monkey's, and she has a prehensile tail furred in slate-gray.

On clothing, she refuses to wear clothing that goes above her elbows or knees, partly because of hypersensitivity to cold and partly for keeping her scales covered. She typically wears her uniform, although she's not adverse to civilian shirts and breeches. She also has a slight fondness for jewelry, particularly silver and cool color gems, and is usually wearing at least one or two pieces aside from a bracelet. Due to her hand-feet, she doesn't wear shoes, but sometimes wears fingerless, padded leather gloves (needless to say, winter is not kind to her.) She keeps two thin longswords strapped to her back in a crossed fashion, and wears a third at her side.

Guild/Rank: Master Knight of Fire, Lingsii Miut naciron, Knight Guildmaster

Personality: Practical and quick-witted, Aeun seems serious, but she has a subtle sarcastic wit matched with a usual serious or deadpan expression. Although she's an expert politician and knows how to throw her adoptive family's clout around, up close and personal she is down to earth and not seeking to impress when she doesn't need to. Aeun doesn't seem to have strong leanings on any issues, leaving herself open to say whatever the other side wants to hear, although her personal views might be considered mildly liberal. She is more tolerant of Chaosian-blooded Unitarians and Chaosian defectors than perhaps her colleagues would like, but also goes to great lengths to cover up her own Chaosian heritage for fear of political repercussion. She's also quite intelligent, being well-read, some in bardic verse, but mostly in law. What drives her so hard? She thinks she can do the corrupted Guild some good, but part of it is a self-satisfaction at being able to play the political game, taking power simply for the challenge of gaining it.

Her sword skills back up her words fairly well. She practices the self-labeled oaegia, a word in her mother's language that roughly means 'three sticks'. Although she typically sticks to one or two swords, when going all out she is capable of wielding all three in hands, feet, tail or even mouth, performing an agile dance of whirling blades.

    Family

Father: Ishkil Parthiux, nagham, 87, bodyguard
Mother: Ioella Ain Baiora, monkey anthro, 77, homemaker
    Siblings:

  • Half-brother (mother's side): Oin Liae, 49, full-anthro, astrologer
  • Half-sister (mother's side): Ia Mafoia, 38, full-anthro, gatherer
  • Eight more on her father's side, although she has never met them.
  • Other Familial Ties:

  • Adopted Father: Aleksi Vlashnovik, noble and retired master Knight, 92
  • Adopted Mother: Ludmila Vlashnovik, noblewoman, deceased
  • Adopted Brother: Anton, 65, master mage
  • Adopted Brother: Valentin, 59, master bard
  • Adopted Brother: Konstatin, 38, merchant
  • Adopted Brother: Mihail: 23, squire Knight, Sciuri Miut
  • Cousin (on her father's side): Xukithl Saada, Bandit King
  • Family History: The Vlashnoviks were fairly upper-class during the Age of Darkness, and were one of the families that didn't lose power after the massive govermental overturning that was King Ryntan. Nowadays, with primary sons in the mages, bards and merchant networks, their influence is not to be denied. Even the retired Aleksi has a powerful opinion that is still listened to in the Guild.

Background: Many of the Baiora clan was captured during the Age of Darkness and split apart, sold into slavery to various people who desired their agility or simian looks. Ioella was one such slave, sold to Ishkil Parthiux for good behavior. Although he raped her many times, she only concieved once, bearing Aeun. Ishkil kept the girl child on a whim, and it's unknown what exactly he planned with her.

When she was nine, rebels raided the small outpost where Ishkil resided, and the nagham was killed, the slaves of the outpost freed. Ioella fled to the mountains where the remnants of her clan resided, and would have taken the young child, but Aeun, already coolly practical, knew there would be little place for a half-Chaosian among a peaceful tribe and instead traveled to Cascadia.

Selling her father's jewels in the city to survive, Aeun immediately applied for the Bard's Guild, making further money on the side with knifeplay and the occasional street fight. When she wasn't practicing knifeplay or studing extensively...well, there wasn't much besides that. In striving for top grades, she came in competition with one Valentin Vlashnovik, who passed on favorable reports of the scholar to his father. Aleksi, upon meeting the girl, was amused by her smooth conversation and intellect (impressive for a commoner!) and offered to sponsor her in exchange for her transfer into the Knights, since both his sons had gone into other professions and he needed an heir of sorts to continue the family legacy in the Knights, and his wife rather fancied a daughter. It was a mutually beneficial business proposition, not any sort of charity or love, and that suited Aeun just fine.

Among the upper circles, Aeun was somewhat of a curiousity, something to be observed and coddled. This, too, suited Aeun just fine, and she quickly learned how to play on the sympathies of these people to get what she wanted. After gaining a mastery relatively quickly at 29, becoming naciron of her own miut was the next jump. From there, she's aimed to get on the Council, but the corrupt conspiracies have blocked her.

Nowadays, Aeun still has contact with her mother's family, writing letters and even visiting on rare occasions; the Baiora clan doesn't stray from their mountain sanctuary. Her adoptive family sees more of her, even though she lives in her own house, and she still uses their last name along with her mother's. If she has an emotional weakness, it is her brothers Valentin, whom she has remained close to, and Mihail, a younger brother who is sort of like a ward to her.

    Elsan Ittrya
    Age: 29
    Gender: Male
Species: Half human, half bat anthro
    Height: 5'7"
    Weight: 148 lbs.
    Birthdate: Natori 18 (January 5)

Appearance: At 5' 7", Elsan is of average height, with a build that's smooth but well-toned. His complexion is fairly pale, contrasting with his thick black hair, usually tied into a short ponytail. His eyes are dark blue, usually with a warm expression in them, and he keeps his face clean-shaven. The anthro blood in him is most evident by the small, black bat-wings emerging from his back, giving him a wingspan of about a foot and a half; the other notable sign is how the tops of his ears are folded down, giving him an elf-like pointed tip at first glance. He's typically in uniform, but might be caught in casual outfits after hours. His weapon of choice is an old longsword of standard Knight issue.

Guild/Rank: Master Knight of Land, Sciuri Miut first ciron

Personality: The first thing one might notice about Elsan is the sense of warmth that accompanies his presence. Although his expression is nearly always calm and serious, there is something about his soft voice and gentle manner that is inviting and friendly. He's quite restrained in action and expression; although it is easy to get a soft smile out of him, outbursts of any sort of emotion are rare. He's quite sensitive, but it can be difficult to get him to reveal anything that bothers him.

He is very loyal to the Sciuri Miut, and often considers them as family, with the naciron Zayr as a surrogate father, fellow cirons Nicandro and Seyal as siblings, and his subordinates as his own wards. A good listener, Elsan often acts as an advisor for the younger members of the miut. While his sword skills are quite good, although average for a young master, he prefers to rely on his wits, having gained a good sense of strategy and leadership from his naciron.

Elsan's biggest fear is losing his home in the Sciuri Miut. His less- than-legal past rarely bothers him, although he talks little about it, and is usually only brought to light in the company of one Sugar, a childhood friend and perhaps more that contains all his conflicting emotions about the old gang in one. The only trace of his past rougher personality left is an addiction to adrenaline, which is fed by frequent paddlewhack competition, both team and singles.

    Family
Father: Ihlir "Cloak" Ittrya, bat anthro, thief, 42
Mother: Raste "Dagger" Tunel, human, thief, 45
    Siblings: None

Background: Elsan was born to a pair of thieves that were part of a street gang. Although Elsan himself had little talent for thievery, he was quick and fairly athletic for his age, and established himself as muscle for the small gang. As he grew older, he became a hot- tempered, cynical young man who was friendly enough with the other young members, but deeply resented the control his parents had over his life. Although he ran away a few times, he usually came back in a few days, bitter over his inability to break away.

When he was fourteen, he and a few others were caught in a Knights' raid. It's not really known why Pellis took an interest in the young teen, as Elsan talks even less about Pellis than he does his parents, but the popular rumor is that he needed a warm body to have enough overflow of Knights for a new miut--his miut. For Elsan, it was stepping from the frying pan to the fire. The arrogant, dominating Pellis was even more intolerable than his parents, but with a threat of Camp Blackrock hanging over his head, he really had nowhere else to go. It is probably only due to a loose friendship with fellow cirons Seyal Amitin and Nicandro Everard that kept him from snapping completely.

Five years later, he met Zayr for the first time. Freshly arrived from an escape off Chaos Isle, he was lent Pellis's second evamiut in a test of his mastery. After passing the test, Elsan ran into the seemingly young Knight a few more times. The master seemed to have some interest in him, and asked extensive questions about the miut. Elsan thought little of it, until Pellis made the Council, and Zayr gained control of the Sciuri Miut, turning it completely on its head. Zayr's cool, dignified demeanor and strict but fair and involved training were a far cry from Pellis's arrogant, mocking tones and complete apathy for the welfare of his property, and Elsan slowly came to realize that perhaps he didn't completely dislike that. Gradually, he matured into who he is today and now takes pride in his job.

    Bond

    Bond type: ryuuki
    Bond name: Dawntuarth
In Training (Cascadian Avengers), Common Bond
    Sire/dam: Kerosaulth/Azizeth

Appearance: Dawntuarth is long and lean, a bright lemony-yellow that fades to lime green at his tips.

Personality: Dawntuarth is still innocent and young, but his inquisitive nature will probably stick with him. He idolizes his bond, perhaps more than Elsan is comfortable with, and wants to be a Knight as well.

    Yasmin "Blue-Eyes" Rakirth
    Age: 650
    Gender: Female
    Species: Demon
    Height: 6'0
    Weight: 185 lbs, including wings
    Blood type: A
    Birthdate: Natori 4 (December 22)

Appearance: Fairly tall for a woman, she's somewhat Hispanic in appearance, with long soft hair usually let loose down her back and shapely eyes that are a dark blue. Her horns are blackish-brown in color and small enough to be hidden among her thick black hair and are possibly filed down. Her large bat-like wings and tail are of the same color, although she often keeps her tail wrapped around her waist. Her hooves are small, almost dainty, and pure black, but are usually hidden inside laced-up boots. Overall, she's got an athletic build from centuries of training.

She tends to dress in darker, less noticeable colors, and wears clothing that is loose enough to move freely in--she greatly dislikes tight clothing. Preferring pants to skirts, if she is not wearing boots to cover her hooves, then she goes barefoot...er, barehooved. As to weaponry, she carries twin blades that are curved, the handle connected to the dull side inside the curve. Like all the Rakirth clan blades, it's enchanted to release Chaotic energy along the blade, but Yasmin rarely uses this. (Of course, she rarely uses them at all.) (image)

    Guild/Rank: Master Patroller (record-keeper), Patrolmaster

Personality: She's typically cool and pretty unflappable, used to dealing with various crises under pressure. Not used to showing emotions, she has a quick wit, a sarcastic bite, and a sharp and extensive memory (a necessity on her job). She doesn't have much of a social life, and friends are hard to come by, partly due to her hermitage inside the Patrolhall and partly due to a very healthy paranoia of her identity getting slipped to the wrong ears. Although she despises Chaos, she still is coping with the remnants of her upbringing and blood, such as a scorn for half-demons, and an attraction to Chaotic energy. She is not above giving a little tough love in the form of a thrown book, but she doesn't like fighting at all--she's been trained to not show mercy or hold back, and finds her fighting blood difficult to control once it is provoked. Despite her talent for analytical thinking, her real hobby is in writing fiction. Under the pen name "Adele Laxin", she has produced 23 novels, among which are "Algernon's Scorpion", "Games Children Play", "Baiban in Middle Earth", "First Course, Sea Slug", "Passive-Aggressive", "Epilogue", and her latest, "Hidden Mask".

    Family

Father: Perthiux Rakirth, 1892, Hands officer
Mother: Alakira Rakirth, 1904, Hands officer

    Siblings:

  • Toburath, 967, Hands officer
  • Jaina, deceased
  • Other Familial Ties:

  • Boyfriend Nikado
  • Son Tosh, 35?, ghost
  • Background: Yasmin is the youngest of three siblings (that she knows of) of two members of the prestigious Rakirth clan. Forsaking other demonic talents such as shapeshifting and magical ability, the Rakirth pour all their life into honing their fighting skills and are regarded by many as the most dangerous and deadly among Chaosians. Born into such a clan, there was little question of how Yasmin was supposed to spend the three millennia of her life. And for a time, she tried to live up to her parents' expectations, but gradually became disgusted and then numbed by the killing. Desperate for an alternative, she attempted to teach herself some bloodmagic, but she had no natural Talent, and killing sources was no better than her clan's work.

It was then through the process of teaching herself to read demontongue over the mage scripts that she discovered the written word and storytelling. Reading the scant fiction books she could find in secret from her clan, she taught herself the Commontongue alphabet as well. Longing for more stories, she began freeing slaves in secret that could tell a good story. Her clan, assuming the slaves were killed, were pleased that she was finally showing some iniative, and things were okay for a time.

Then her brother discovered what she was up to. Knowing she couldn't win against him, Yasmin used what little she had learned from her bloodmagic studies to fake her death, then she fled to Shadow Star and Cascadia, cursing Chaos and her family the entire way. By the time she made it to Cascadia, stayling low and avoiding roads to keep from being found, she was in the beginning stages of Chaos withdrawals, and collapsed on the doorstep of two Patrollers.

After some flailing and a few moments of panic, Nikado and Aizaem hid her in the Patrolhall, watching over her as she went through withdrawals. Nikado defected not long after her recovery, so she stayed in the Patrolhall to help Aizaem tend to his partner. During that time, she learned a little about the Patrol. After Nikado's recovery, she stayed on with the Patrol, organizing and compiling their then-sparse and highly disorganized files. She's been there since then, tending to the Patrol's records, taking up some administrative responsibilities after Rehanin's death.

    Damane Tero
Age: Physically six, chronologically one year
    Gender: Male
    Species: Human/one-eighth giant/smattering of elf
    Birthdate: Loirym 21 (August 24)

Appearance: Tall for his age, but of average build, and lighter-skinned than either of his parents. He has fine dark blue hair usually kept trimmed just past his chin, and topaz-brown eyes set in a face that is not chubby or childlike, but often with a serious expression and an inquisitive gaze. The left side of his face is also decorated with black tendrils, like a leafless vine, curling around his eye and cheek. He dresses plainly, but likes greens, browns and black, and carries no weapons.

    Guild/Rank: None

Personality: Damane always seems to be wearing a serious expression. The only expressive thing about him is his eyes, which usually his only outward indication of most emotions. This gives him a rather mature air, even when he's bouncing on the bed or scraping his knees as six year olds are wont to do. He's very curious about the world about him, but has a hard time understanding other people, outside his sister. Like his parental lineage, he has a fighter's spirit and likes to get into rough and tumble play every now and then.

Damane's bloodline Talent comes forth in the form of mild telekinetic abilities, a pure invisible pushing force. He's mostly only learned to put this force out through his fists, but he can let out a raw forceful push away from himself when threatened.

    Family

    Father: Teslian Nikado, 36, Patroller
    Mother: Jaiorin Tero, 25, Patroller
    Siblings: Trelai Tero, 6

    Other Familial Ties:

  • Aunts: Jirdan, Rista, and Morian
  • Uncles: Koshu, Hoti, Kaso, Jorsha, and Keshalan
  • Grandmother: Katori
  • Grandfather: Nikado
  • Background: Damane and Trelai were born in the Patrolhall and spent the first year of their lives under the care of their parents and extended family. They were kidnapped, however, during Firstday by Mahja Ris for the purpose of exploiting their bloodlines for Chaos. After a successful rescue mission, they were brought back to Shadow Star, but not before the demon bloodmage Ilea Karath advanced their age by five years. They currently live in Cascadia with their parents.

    Trelai Tero
Age: Physically six, chronologically one year
    Gender: Female
    Species: Human/one-eighth giant/smattering of elf
    Birthdate: Loirym 21 (August 24)

Appearance: Tall, and rather thin and waif-like, her skin is a bit darker than her mother's, more similar to her maternal grandmother. Long, fine dark-purple hair falls past her shoulders, usually bound in a loose ponytail, framing a spectacled face, whose main feature is a pair of forbidding indigo eyes. Stemming from the small of her back, she has black streaks running up her back and across her waist, not curled like her brother's, but more curvy, like the outline of flames. She dresses casually, will wear a dress if she's put in one, and doesn't carry a weapon.

    Guild/Rank: None

Personality: She's not terribly sociable, and not too fond of cuddling or touching. She doesn't talk much either, and when she does it's often with a vocabulary surpassing that of a normal child. Usually when addressing adults or her family, she is quite polite. Rarely showing emotion, she often insults her enemies into submission rather than use brute force, if she's not being outright sarcastic. She only seems to be close to her brother and takes it upon herself to protect him. Not very trusting, she's not above manipulating people.

Because of her parental bloodline, Trelai manifests some psychic ability that have been recently cracked open. She is empathic, picking up on emotions fairly easy, and is able to skim surface thoughts of a person with concentration. In times of high emotion, she has a rather uncontrolled 'pushing' of her emotions outward, onto other people.

    Family

    Father: Teslian Nikado, 36, Patroller
    Mother: Jaiorin Tero, 25, Patroller
    Siblings: Damane Tero, 6

    Other Familial Ties:

  • Aunts: Jirdan, Rista, and Morian
  • Uncles: Koshu, Hoti, Kaso, Jorsha, and Keshalan
  • Grandmother: Katori
  • Grandfather: Nikado

    Jasper "Dart" Kirigan
    Age: 20
    Gender: Male
    Species: 1/8 nagham, 7/8 human

Appearance: Jasper's of average height, around 5' 6", and rather on the skinny side due to a combination of genetics, Patrol work, and a rather strict vegetarian diet. His hair was brown at some point, but Oceanican sun has bleached it to a dirty blonde, which reaches down to his shoulderblades. Typically he keeps it in a loose ponytail. His eyes are a rich turquoise in color, set in a face that has vague hints of exoticism, and there's a small cluster of darker blue scales by the corner of his left eye. There's a few other patches of scales on his tanned skin, but they're usually hidden by clothing or shoes.

He doesn't really care for uniforms, but wears them if necessary, and otherwise doesn't have much of a preference, as long as he can move freely in it. For close range, he tends to use his fists, and carries darts as a throwing weapon, several laced with sleeping or paralyzing poisons.

    Guild/Rank: Journeyman Patroller

Personality: "Rough around the edges" is a good way to describe him; he's basically a decent sort, but not exactly from Oceanican high society, and it shows in his callused hands and rough Oceanican accent. Not much of a planner, he tends to do most of his thinking on his feet, but training's made him pretty good at that. He prefers practicality over style, and is pretty thick-skinned, but doesn't tolerate slanders toward his family, especially his father. He takes his Patrol duties very seriously, whatever they may be, and isn't much of one for complaining. In his free time, he keeps up with practicing gymnastics; it can be a little distracting to have a conversation with him while he does. Despite his usually relaxed look and posture, he's got a fair touch of (understandable) paranoia, and is constantly on guard from subtle attacks.

    Family

Father: Ansuen "Umbra" Kirigan, assassin, deceased
    Mother: Jasila Erthles, acrobat/dancer, 46 (quarter-nagham)
Siblings: younger brother Ishmael, 8, no profession yet

Background: The son of an assassin, life was never exactly safe for Jasper. He learned from his father fairly quickly the various ways in which one might be subtly killed and how to avoid them, and when he wasn't doing that, his mother was teaching him gymnastics. Money was usually tight and living conditions weren't great; Jasila had to take a job as a dancer to help make ends meet, particularly after Ishmael was born, and slowly lost her figure for acrobatics, but passed on her lessons to her two sons. It was her hope that they'd manage to make a living in the Bard's Guild and improve their own conditions, and Jasper spent a few years in the Bard's Guild gaining a basic education.

When Jasper was 16, Ansuen's lifestyle finally caught up with him, his body found by two journeyman Patrollers. Determined to avenge his father, he entered the Knights' Guild. Despite a rocky start with the two journeymen, Shion and Tamao (Shion in particular), he was one of the few Oceanican Patrollers to join the Patrol directly instead of switching factions. His quick actions during the attack on Oceanica during Firstday earned him his journeyman rank and some grudging respect from Shion.

    Talira
    Age: 59
    Gender: Female
    Species: Human
    Height: 5' 10"
    Birthday: Hyrab 43 (June 17)

Appearance: She doesn't appear as old as she is due to entropic treatments, looking closer to her thirties. She has a rather striking appearance, being fairly tall for a woman, and with an athletic build--perhaps the major flaws in her otherwise slim and model-like figure are broad shoulders and average-to-small endowments. Her hair is long, thick and black, usually kept in a braid that reaches to mid-back. Her eyes are also fairly unusual: almond-shaped, one is a natural violet, but the other is gold due to cosmetic bloodmagic. Her skin is olive-toned and she only has a few scars that can be easily covered up--the rest have been hidden with magic. She has runes embedded in her arms which allow her control of a small amount of pyrokinesis; they are visible when active. She dresses casually, usually in dark colors and never wears a skirt or dress, but does like clothes that flatter her figure and appearance. For weapons, she carries eight throwing daggers, attached to her arms, boots, and belt, and has two larger daggers in her belt as well for knifefighting.

    Guild/Rank: Thief

Personality: To say she's a pleasant person to be around would be misleading; in fact, Talira's arrogance, aggression, and stubbornness can make her trying to be around. Considering herself superior to most, she takes crap from no one, and although she can be crafty, often her ego gets in the way, so she usually deals with problems by brute force. She's pretty lacking in tact and rather loudmouthed, and although she doesn't trust any thief farther than she can throw them, she doesn't mind drinking with them (which she does a lot). As one might be able to tell by all the bloodmagic, she's rather vain about her appearance, and has nothing against either traditional Unity magic or bloodmagic, although she has no Talent, herself. Above all, she values her independance and pride; if she gives her word, you can bet it won't be broken. For the sake of her pride, she's allowed a single chain on her freedom--Black Wynd.

    Family

Mother: Piora, Knight, would be 95, presumed deceased
Father: Takada, Knight, would be 90, presumed deceased
    Siblings: Nikado, master Patroller, 66

Background: Talira was born in Cascadia, another disconnected child running around the Knights' Guild. She hit her rebellious streak early, attempting to run away several times. After the older Knights got tired of watching after her, she was assigned to help in the jail cells, a virtual prisoner outside the bars. Not to be deterred, she pestered the residents of the jail for lessons on various things such as thievery and fighting, and struck up a sort-of friendship with a boy three years her senior named Jericho. Practicing whenever she got a chance, she pushed her physical capabilities to the limits and sought out bloodmages for further help. At fifteen, she ran away from the Guild for good, taking Jericho with her, and defected from Chaos not long after. The pair wandered all over Shadow Star, acquiring more members to their gang, Talira even making a visit to Ablatas. She recently returned to Cascadia in an attempt to make off with its riches, but she became distracted by one of the Cascadian Talons, Black Wynd. In an ironic twist of fate, she ended up pledging herself to Black Wynd's service and is now part of the Thieves' Guild.

"Trombone" Vagari. His night name (which is probably his actual first name) is the one he uses with the most consistently; first names he's given include Clarence, Skelale, Zash, and Tyjxye.
    Age: 33
    Gender: Male
    Height: 5'2"
    Species: Squirrel anthro

Appearance: He's not tall at all, no more than five foot two, which might give some the impression he isn't full-grown. His animal features are very prominent, and his short fur is a sable color; whether it's natural or dyed, he'll never tell. His hair is the same shade, falling almost to the small of his back, usually tied into a loose ponytail, with long bangs that sometimes flop over his right eye. His eyes are a dark gray that seems lighter in comparison to his fur, and his twitching tail is only still when he's on a job.
Clothing-wise, he tends to dress plain, in neutral colors if he's at his day job, dark if he's doing Guild work, and never wears anything lopsided. His favorite weapon of choice is a combination of a sword and steel fan connected by a long chain. The sword hilt and fan both are decorated with an eye motif, as if the weapons are watching their opponent.

Guild/Rank: Talon. By day, he works at a publishing firm, doing both news articles and more sensational tabloid entries.

Personality: Practically everyone that knows Trom's name has asked him where the trom bone is located. He gives a different answer every time. A smooth talker, his eloquence has gotten him out of a few scrapes and keeps his day job afloat. He's generally likeable and rarely shows any ill temper, preferring to joke a little, and often lives for the thrill. He'd rather talk than fight, although he is skilled with his weapon, and his news connections make him a capable spy for the Thieves' Guild. While he usually lets things come what may, his one point of anal-ness is organization; he simply can't leave things disorganized. His tendency to stop and rearrange the place he's supposed to be robbing has gotten him caught a few times. If he isn't allowed to organize something messy, it completely throws his state of mind, making him very squirrel-like in his sudden nervousness and tension.

    Family

Father: Tornire Vagari, 62, master carpenter.
    Mother: Ismana Vagari, 70, homemaker.
    Siblings:

  • Lexyn, 35, male, wanderer mathmatician
  • Farif, 35, male, master gardener
  • Ichikin, 35, female, rickshaw puller
  • Airair, 33 (younger twin), female, journeyman glassblower
  • Marui, 30, female, brewer
  • Sailet, 30, female, banker
  • Elmrack, 30, female, servant

  • Other Familial Ties: More cousins and aunts and uncles than he cares to count!

Background: While children in the Vagari clan are often born as twins or triplets, they are equally often as far apart in personality and interests as people can be. No matter the occupation, chances are there's a Vagari that's tried it. The underground is no exception. Unlike his ginger-pink twin, who was fascinated by glass, Trom discovered he had a way with words, and so went into bard training early. Unfortunately, being talented at something and liking something are not always the same thing. He spent some time as an on-location reporter, taking the most dangerous jobs he could find, and did solely tabloid work for a while as he tried to find out what he was truly interested in.
It was his obsessive-compulsive organizing that first got him into the underground; it started as simply breaking and entering to rearrange messy homes, but the thrill of not being caught eventually led him to start taking little things. He was eventually found out and recruited into the guild, then under the Backwards Man. When the Dispassionate Man took over, Trom eventually went freelance, and was re-recruited by Black Wynd to take back the underground. After the Patient Man's rise, he took back his place in the guild, now as a Talon.

    Bond

    Bond type: Water dragon
    Bond name: Keramelle
    Waiting to bond Sire/Dam: Roybealle/Camille

Appearance: She takes after her father a lot, but is rather small, lean and serpentine. Her scales are a light, muted golden-tan color and her eyes are milky, indicating her blindness.

Personality: Not. Bothered. By. Anything. Kera is content to let the world slide by, dozing in the sun or napping in the shadows. She always speaks in a slow, almost soporific tone, always sees the bright side of things, and is terribly lazy. Seriously, you could stab this dragon and she'd admire the color of her blood on her scales.

Ability: Turning their bodies into liquid.

    NPCs

    Artan Attimus
    Age: 40s
    Gender: Male
    Species: Human
    Guild/Rank: Master Knight, Sijaer Miut

Appearance: With light brown hair and medium brown eyes, Artan doesn't stick out at all; his average height and build only add to that. About his only distinctive feature is a near-permanent scowl or unpleasant expression. If he's not in armor, he's wearing the uniform of his miut, and like most knights, carries a sword as a weapon.

Personality: The reasons aren't really clear, but Artan seems to have a grudge against most of the world. Half-elementals, Chaosians, elves, mages, women--he hates them all. Matter of fact, a male, human Knight seems to be the only type of person he does trust. There's not much to him outside this bitter ball of hate that likes stabbing things--in the name of justice, of course. It's a dubious blessing that he hates Chaos too much to join them. However, he does have high respect for the Knights' Guild and is an excellent soldier who follows orders.

    Hobarth Feng
    Age: 104
    Gender: Male
    Species: Half gnome, half kender
    Guild/Rank: Master Bard (historian/teacher)

Appearance: The typical look one gets at Hobarth is that of a brown-robed blur. At three and a half feet tall, he doesn't seem imposing at first, but his bustling attitude more than makes up for it. He's not particularly old or young looking, with limp, light-brown hair, darker brown eyes, and an irritated expression.

Personality: Always in a hurry, Hobarth has the monumental task of sorting, compiling and updating the Bard Guildhall library, which is in a state of disaster after the Age of Darkness. Hobarth loves books and knowledge, so much that the state of the library is painful to him. Therefore, he seems to spend pretty much every waking moment in the castle-like structure, sorting, arranging, and cataloguing, to the point where some wonder if he eats or sleeps at all. Always taking himself seriously, he's a constant bundle of energy, always zipping about, and generally seems rather irritable, especially if books are moved out of their seemingly-random piles. Messing with the cataloguing of the library is equal to asking for death in Hobarth's book.

    Jericho Balfard
    Age: 62
    Gender: Male
    Species: Human/eighth troll
    Guild/Rank: Thief/bandit

Appearance: At 6' 3", to say he's tall would be obvious. He's got a lot of toughened muscle to go with it, marked here and there by scars from battle. His hair is trimmed neatly short, a mid-light brown, matching darker brown eyes and tanned skin. He has no moustache or beard, but his sideburns run partway down his jawline. His weapon of choice is a massive hammer, and he dresses in anything reasonable.

Personality: A man of few words, he usually prefers to stay quiet, a wall of imposing muscle, an unspoken threat against Talira's enemies. When he does speak, he's blunt and startlingly honest. Talira is the master to whom he's sworn loyalty, but also a close friend that occasionally needs a strong hand to watch out for her. Jericho isn't much of one for tactics, letting Talira do the planning (a scary thought). He does scorn the other thieves, but usually keeps any emotional tone out of his voice, and his word is as solid as Talira's, although he is less likely to give it out.

    Nina Pospich
    Age: 20s
    Gender: Female
    Species: Anthro (chinchilla)
    Guild/Rank: Wanderer Healer

Appearance: She has soft, grayish-brown curls ringing her face and soft-furred ears, and her eyes are large and a purple-green color, over a small, cute, rounded nose. She's rather short and slightly on the chubby side, and dresses in standard Healer's robes. She abhors weapons.

Personality: Nina is shy but sweet, almost like a mother to her patients, with a gentle touch. Healing is her passion, and nothing makes her happier than seeing a recovering patient; she often works night shifts as a volunteer for those who can't afford care. She hates violence and the results it brings and she could never wish harm on another person. Rather timid, she doesn't have much confidence in her own abilities. Her healing Talent isn't terribly strong, so she mostly uses medicines while she works on developing her Talent.

    Bond

    Name: Sae
    Species: Pegasus

Appearance: Rather big-boned, he's a mottled peach/cream color all over, including his wings. Despite his size, he looks rather thin, and has wide eyes that are never still. While Nina keeps him well-groomed, his mane usually stays rather wild and ragged.

Personality: Sae suffers from teledementia, which is now being controlled for the most part with medication. Still, his excessive exposure to mental voices everywhere has messed with his head, giving him a terrible fear of 'voices'. He shuns telepathic contact of all kind, alienating himself from other bondcreatures, and only allows the 'onevoice', or 'Nina-dear' to talk with him. It's probably the kind, sweet tones of Nina and her strong bondlink with Sae that's kept him from total madness.

    Ability: Lessening/numbing physical pain.

    Seyal Amitin
    Age: 27
    Gender: Female
    Species: Human
Guild/Rank: Master Knight/Scuiri Miut third ciron

Appearance: At just around five feet, Seyal's quite petite, with red hair falling in thick curls around her face and shoulders, matched with merry light blue eyes. She's quite athletic, almost gymnast-like in her figure, and has fair skin. She's usually found in uniform, although she doesn't mind dressing up, and her weapon of choice is the standard Knight longsword.

Personality: Seyal's naturally quite cheery, although she attempts to maintain a professional attitude while on the clock. When she hits a low, though, her emotions get more extreme, usually leaning toward violence or depression. Although she cares for her family, the stress of being from nobility sometimes stresses her out, but in times of danger, her natural leadership ability comes out. She also has a boldness bordering on an exhibitionist streak that sometimes shows.

    Bond

    Name: Traibyunal
    Species: Flamecat

Appearance: He's fairly large for a flamecat, although not as big as Rashonal, and has pretty long fur in a soft gray with darker coal-gray striping on his back. His ears are tufted, his tail is feathery, and his eyes are gold.

Personality: He's still quite childlike and innocent despite his half-grown age, always seeming to be energetic. He likes helping people out and being pampered by his bond, and has adopted Cvetenal and Rashonal as his parents and Ajaalaus as his "brother".

Ability: Flash-step: Seyal and Traibyunal can teleport up to twenty feet in one step (although it's usually between three and seven feet), allowing for a lot of agility in a fight. This ability is easier for them to activate in a fight.

    Tosh Rakirth
    Age: Would be 35
    Gender: Male
    Species: Ghost (Half-demon/half-human)
    Guild/Rank: None

Appearance: Fairly tall and with an average-sized athletic build, he appears to be a young adult in his early twenties. His hair is black, thick and straight, and usually kept a little past his shoulders. His face is only slightly rounded, marked with large crystalline blue eyes, and his skin is olive in tone. He has slightly undersized reddish-brown batlike wings and a demon's tail, but he lacks horns and his feet are also human. He appears to be dressed in a plain tunic and breeches and goes barefoot. Of course, all of this appearance is slightly faded and translucent due to being dead.

Personality: A bit rough around the edges, sometimes lacking in tact, but usually rather laidback and sensible. He can have a bit of a temper, but his usual shouting fits are more melodrama than actual anger. Tosh is usually rather reckless, prone to telling tall tales (usually about his 'death'), and likes watching fights. Although he often pretends like he's not interested in "mortals and their affairs", he loves a captive audience and being around people.

    Tyrus Thanes
    Age: 62
    Gender: Male
    Species: Human
Guild/Rank: Master Knight of Water, Sijaer Miut (naciron)/CouncilKnight

Appearance: A well built and gruff-looking man still within his prime, sporting a few scars here and there from active battles. His hair is a dark brown with his eyes a lighter shade, and he is usually in armor, be it dress armor or something more practical. His weapon of choice is a long sword.

Personality: Tyrus is about as warm and fuzzy as a drill sargeant; he tolerates nothing from his subordinates and keeps his miut well-trained and disciplined. Which is more than he can say for the rest of the guild; Tyrus scorns most of the guild as corrupt, undisciplined, scum, or all of the above, though he's getting better at that. Rather set in tradition, but not bound by them, he now finds it his duty to help keep some semblance of tradition (and sanity) in the Guild.
