Shawna
Alistra Teva
Age: 150ish
Sex: Female
Species: City Elf
Appearance: Slightly taller than five one with a wiry, slim build, she looks nowhere near as dangerous as she is. Her black hair is cut to just past her shoulders and is usually kept up and out of her way. Her red and gold eyes are almost too large for her narrow face. Her clothing tends to be non-restrictive to the point of being nearly nonexistent. Most often leather in either black or a dark red, it shows off much of her pale skin and does little or nothing to hide her weapons. Alistra is armed with blowdarts and the occasional small knives, most often all poisoned. A fan of precious metals and jewels, when not working she is often bedecked with an assortment of jewelry, thought she leaves the ear on which she wears the silver hoop of a Justice empty of all but that.
Guild & Rank: Justice
Personality: Alistra is calm and callous in most instances, the only exception being her fanatic devotion to her Goddess. She is respectful of authority and obedient, providing she has the belief that that authority is approved of by the Nameless One. Having grown up with the knowledge that at least one of her parents was deemed a traitor, she fears inadvertent disloyalty more than death and is even more vehement about hunting down traitors than most Justices. Though she carries poisoned blades, it is rarely fatal, more often a paralyzing poison designed to make it easier to capture her victims in order to extract information.
Family
Father: Arucade Teva- Justice- presumed deceased
Mother: Sareen Darkfalcon- Justice turned Patroller- believed deceased
Siblings: None
Other Familial Ties:
Background: Alistra remembers very little of her youth, only retaining fragments of memories of her parents. The strongest image she retains is of her mother's twin, Jerlisa, who is the only figure from her early childhood that she remembers with any admiration or the faintest hint of affection. She has only the faintest memory of the night she was taken from her home, and feels no grief or regret about being taken away from her family. Her grandmother took charge of her only long enough to have her placed into training. A diligent student, she quickly took to life as a Justice, enjoying first the training, then the work. She was frustrated to discover that her species would make it difficult to rise to the top ranks, but responded only by becoming more dedicated and more determined to become a feared and powerful servant of Chaos.
Pets
Pet name(s): Rean
Pet type(s): Headhugger
Pet description: The only thing that can really be said for Rean's
loyalty is that he hasn't tried to attach himself to his owner,
although that is likely only because she keeps him in a steady supply
of other food. Alistra always supplies him with a plain, dull colored
male jituq in order to keep him familiar, and to make it easier to
call him a 'he'.
Other: Keyla has weak and untrained empathy, a fact which she would sternly protest is not true. Had she not bonded, there is a good chance that the near-constant onslaught of outside emotions would have either driven her from cities or insane by now. Her bonds now serve as a buffer, although the price of this is that she cannot block any of them out without the use of hers and Munal’s bondtalent; the best she can do is try to drown them out.
Guild/Rank: Tailor (owner of "Needles, Pins and Things") Fire Trainingmistress
Personality: Overly energetic, bubbly, and friendly, Keyla will tell you anything you want to know; it just might not be the truth. She is a very caring person, but that does not take away from the fact that she grew up an indulged, spoiled child. Fending for herself and earning her own way remains mostly a game in Keyla's mind, because she is still fully convinced that, if things get too bad, she can still go home, where her aunt and mother will make everything alright. Her mild empathy makes her want to try to keep those around her from being distressed, and causes her apparent childishly upbeat attitude. Keyla's entire attitude functions on the 'if I refuse to see it, it can't hurt me' philosophy.
Family
Mother: Catelyn Eydien (married name- Coen)
Father: Gerik Coen (deceased)
Aunt: Catheryn Eydien- deceased
Cousins: Various
Background: She grew up in Oceanica and ran away from home after the death of her father and the sudden development of her empathy made home too painful a place for her to live; it was this act that caused the now apparently permanent rift between her and her mother. She was a thief for a while, especially after she found her pet wyvern, Cheva, who would steal from spectators while she performed tricks, sang, danced, etc. They weren't very good, but they managed to survive, with only a few traumatic mishaps which Keyla will deny happened to this day. A few years ago she was eating in an alley when a cat walked up and calmly informed her he was stealing from her. Both were shocked when she heard him. After that, the cat adopted her, calling her ‘his Keyla', and she named him Honest.
Eventually the three made it to Cascadia Falls, where she bonded the fire dragon Yalinulle, adding another voice for her to hear in her head. And making her habit of talking out loud while sending her thoughts to her menagerie, if they're close enough, all the more obvious.
Using the allowance her wealthy family sent her after she regained some of her ‘respectability’ by bonding, Keyla took possession of an old clothing shop in order to indulge in her love of designing and making clothing. One of the last things she ever expected was to hear her name called at another bonding, but Munal and Jolanal had other things in mind, and Keyla became a replacement for the missing former trainingmisstress.
Pets: A pale blue wyvern named Cheva who is usually very quiet, but occasionally is very talkative, and very verbose, for a wyvern, likely because of Keyla's mild psychic powers and habit of projecting her thoughts slightly.
A tiny gray tiger striped 'cat'* called 'Honest' by Keyla. He, like his 'pet angel', is very mildly psychic and
has a habit of talking to himself. Any animals or people near him with psychic powers could hear him if they
tried, but "nobody listens to a cat." Honest never calls anyone by name, or by species, but by describing them
(big flying lizard = dragon, little flying lizard = wyvern), excepting only 'his' Keyla, and occasionally
Cheva. He always fights with Keyla's bond, Yalinulle, when a good distance away from her.
(* Honest is the half-wynd result of a mage experiment to make wynds large enough and intelligent enough to carry messages. When it seemed to have failed completely, he and his siblings were dumped onto the streets.)
Bond: Fire dragon Yalinulle. Yalinulle is large, even for a fire dragon. Her body is a light teal color. Her talons and eyes are silver, and her wings are silver-sailed and ribbed with teal.
Yalinulle is very prim and arrogant. The way Keyla dresses and acts appalls her, and she doesn't hesitate to tell her bond, very lovingly. She is slightly jealous of Keyla's friends and pets, and is very protective of both her bond's health and her feelings.
Ability: They can turn into songbirds.
Bond: Jolanal- Flamecat.- Jolanal is a medium sized flamecat, white tipped with black on top and black tipped with white on the bottom. Black stripes run down her back and her skinny tail is tipped with white.
Jolanal is the most dedicated to doing well in everything she does, and proves helpful to Keyla in both her occupation as a trainingmaster and as a tailor. She adores her bond’s sense of ‘style’ and color.
Ability: They can create perfectly straight lines of light.
Bond: Munal- Phoenix- Munal is small but stout, sea-green with wings patched in white.
Munal is a bit excitable and very competitive. She is the friendliest of the trio, and the most playful. She has developed a particularly strong fondness for Yali, much to the dragon’s spoken dismay, and continually attempts to get her to engage in games and play.
Ability: Create strong mental shields to block out outside telepathic/empathic communications and attacks, even from stronger sources than the angel (within reason).
Caldre Beceere
Age: 360(ish)
Gender: Male
Species: Dragoon
Appearance: Caldre is around five nine or five ten, but his broad shoulders, heavy muscles, and often booming voice make him sometimes seem larger, especially if you are an unfortunate page or squire who has done something foolish. His eyes are brown, as would be his hair, if he'd let it grow. A jagged and very pronounced scar crosses his scalp, and it is this, or rather the way it makes his hair stick up as it grows that leads him to diligently keep his head free of hair. He does wear a beard, about which he is very proud. His skin is darkly tanned (excepting his scalp, which has the misfortune of quite often being burned instead), and the frame of his wings are scaled in a matching brown.
Guild/Rank: Master Knight of Land, Fifth Ciron, Scuiri Miut
Personality: Caldre is usually distantly friendly, if a bit gruff in manner. He strives to stay collected and controlled at all times, in fact the first sign that something is wrong with him is a degrading of his appearance (wrinkled uniform, ragged beard), rather than signs in his words and actions. Having spent most of his life in the knights' guild, organization and a clear chain of command and responsibility are very important; nothing bothers him more than not having someone to report to when he should have one.
Casually ambitious, he does always work to better himself so that he can better his position, but he disapproves of nothing more than using deception or treachery to gain position because it destabilizes and weakens the whole structure.
While he encourages acquaintances to be comfortable around him, he rarely returns the favor by relaxing and sharing his own deeper personal issues. His love for art is more than he is comfortable sharing, and so he tries to put it off as a casual hobby and restricts it to his sketching.
Caldre has a difficulty with names which he tries to pass off at times as a tragic symptom of his previous injury, but has in fact always been there. While he adapts to this by forcing practice and memorization of the names of his superiors and miutmates, he is helpless left in a strange crowd.
Parents:
Background: Considering his mother was a druid and his father a knight, Caldre's family was never a very peaceful, stable, and unified one, but he was happy enough as a child. While he can count the number of times he saw his family all together, his childhood was neither especially lonely nor tragic. He was raised more by his father's family than by his parents, actually being passed off at times as his father's nephew.
He and his male siblings were all placed in the Knights' Guild as pages at fairly young ages, while his sister joined his mother in her travels for training. At this point, the knights became his family, and over time he has grown to be more comfortable with them than with his real family.
His first miut wound up being reshuffled among other miuts after suffering losses and the suspicion of uncertain loyalties among the cirons. This chaotic and confusing period in his time as a page gave Caldre his paranoia about disorder and holes in the chain of command.
After an otherwise uneventful and unexciting journey towards mastery, Caldre decided to make moves towards starting a family. To that end, he met, courted, and became engaged to a healer named Abella. While she thought it was a love-based relationship, Caldre viewed it as simply a convenient and practical thing to do. Unsurprisingly, it did not end well. The relationship ended after accusations of cheating, a screaming match, and a bottle to Caldre's skull. That blow is the cause of his scar, but he prefers not to tell that story, instead encouraging rumors of nasty fights with trolls or the like. He neither talks about, nor to Abella, and has mostly put the event out of his mind as simply something foolish he did.
After suffering very heavy losses during the recent battle against
Chaos, Caldre's miut, the Tigers, was combined with the Scuiri miut.
Pets
Pet name(s): Red and Blue
Species: Fish of assorted kinds. Currently a pair of betta-type fish.
Pet description( s): They are always kept in a magically heated,
divided tank, but the fish themselves wind up being changed every
few months. Caldre is not the best fish keeper.
Tevak Blackfire
Age: Around a thousand
Height: In his usual form a bit over six feet
Race: Mostly demon, but with some Unitarian blood mixed in, possibly
elvish
Sex: Male
Appearance: In his normal form (dragon-winged faun) he has dark brown fur and black wings. His more commonly preferred form is more elven, but with sharpened teeth. His hair is black and red, and his gold eyes have a slightly reddish tint Chaosians. Tall and muscular, his physic shows that he keeps his body in peak condition as much as his mind and magical abilities. His clothing is always both elegant and functional, though it is subject to rapid change. There is always a jeweled pendant around his neck which he uses for focusing, and he usually has several small weapons, as well as his thin-bladed sword. The sword is of a dark alloy and the hilt is in the shape of a gargoyle or dragon claw clutching a dark gem containing blood magic.
Guild/Rank: Demonlord
Personality: Tevak is cruel, but above all cold and calculating. His only loyalties are to himself, his Goddess, and occasionally to one who has Her favor. He is protective, in a way, of those who serve him well, but only because he views an attack on them as an insult to him, and he will do nothing that endangers his person or power. That is not to say they are safe, but merely that only he is allowed to maim and torture them. Tevak's love lies in torture. He enjoys little more than torturing others, not for information, that is incidental, but for that moment after they have told him what he wants to know when they realize that the torture isn't going to stop. His other specialty lies in Unitarian Bond creatures, both bonded and wild, though his supply for study has greatly diminished lately.
His recent reassignment from Hordemaster to Demonlord has pleased him, allowing him to focus on matters more suited to his ordered, analytical mind than military matters.
Family
Mother: Ciarda Conn
Father: Arlen Conn
Brother: Dearan Conn
Background: Very little of his past is known to most. He chooses a vaguely elven shape as a type of insult to his nonChaos-bound heritage, and because his slightly diluted demon blood makes casual shapeshifting unusually draining for him. His name comes from a favorite spell of his, which summons a cold burning fire that can only be dampened by magic or by lighting a larger hot fire, and from a melo-dramatic attempt to distance himself from his blood relatives.
Never the favorite of the clan because of his inheritance of the weaknesses of his blood and magical Talents, as a youth he was denied a good deal of the respect he might otherwise have been entitled to by birth. At an early age, he learned that the only 'proper' respect (or fear) was what one earned, and so he began honing his skills and ambition. In an attempt to overcome his trouble with harnessing pure Chaotic energy, he tried to achieve total mastery over Chaotic blackfire; he was not successful, nearly killing himself and making it even more difficult for him to harness pure Chaotic energy. Learning from this mistake and (very arrogantly) believing Chaos had spared him for some purpose, he turned his attention to intellectual pursuits.
He enjoyed some fame during the occupation of ShadowStar by Chaos, but also succeeded in earning a price on his head for refusing to obey standard loyalties to superiors and refusing to fight battles which he feared would not go well.
For many years he was a near recluse in a large keep surrounded and saturated with warding spells and traps. Kurai’s summons brought him out into first her service as Hordemaster, then the service of Mahja, who reassigned him to Demonlord because of his poor, or at best mediocre, performance in organizing the military.
Bond: Larus-gargoyle
Appearance: He is an average-sized, slate gray, and entirely
un-extraordinary looking gargoyle.
Personality: Larus is serious, calculating, and entirely loyal to his goddess, to the point of placing Her before even his bond. Soft spoken and often even friendly, he comes across as much less threatening than he is, considering he enjoys crunching on disrespectful skulls when occassion presents itself.
Description: At five one and rather too skinny, she carries herself with an air of control that makes her seem larger. Her hair is still completely black, and her braid currently falls to the middle of her back. Since leaving Chaos Island, her eyes have turned a dark green. Her pale skin is marked with very old scars and more recent ones.
Guild/Rank: Master Patroller
Personality: Sareen is impulsive with strong core of compassion that, despite decades spent trying to smother it, proved to be her downfall and lingers still. A tendency to find things amusing when they start to go wrong occasionally makes her difficult to be around. Her refusal to think about her past and what she has lost prevents her from moving on in her life and embracing anything which makes her happy. A lack of hope for any future happiness causes her to care little about what happens to her, excepting only a refusal to be taken alive back to Chaos Island. Recently, she has begun to open up and befriend more people, and she is becoming very protective of these relationships, even if she has difficulty admitting they exist.
Family
Father: Chaos Justice Martell Darkfalcon- deceased
Mother: Serlyn - approximately 600, still living
Sister: Chaos Justice Jerlisa- deceased
Husband: Arucade Teva- presumed deceased
Daughter: Alistra—150
Background: Sareen was one of two daughters of a midlevel Justice who chose to follow in their father's footsteps. A lack of dedication on her part, especially after the suspicious death of her father while on a mission, kept her from either rising very fast or very far, but never proved enough for her to be 'removed'. She entered a marriage of convenience, and had a daughter named Alistra. On one of her missions, she came across a young boy who'd wild-bonded a water dragon. After she allowed the boy to escape, she was deemed rogue, and her life forfeit. The Justice who eventually found her was her sister, Jerlisa. Sareen killed her sister, then transferred her clothing and possession onto another mangled body, including the earring marking her a Justice. Since her sister saw to it that a report of Sareen’s death went out, it was assumed that the mangled body was Sareen, slain by Jerlisa's bond after his bonded's death. Returning one final time to her home, she found it ransacked, blood on the walls of her daughter's bedroom. Furious at the apparent betrayal of a goddess she’d tried to follow and grief-stricken at the loss of sister and daughter, she left, years later finding herself on ShadowStar Island. She was recruited by a master Patroller and proved to be a valuable asset, both because of her understanding of Chaos, her early training as a spy, and her near- suicidal disregard for safety.
Over the next decade, she did little to integrate herself into friendly society or improve her state of mind and was in a slow downward spiral when her current partner met her. Rather forcibly made to adapt and adjust by Nikado, she was able to stabilize herself, make friends, and even take on more responsibilities by joining Nikado and Yasmin in sharing the Patrolmaster’s duties. Recently, she set aside the last ties to her life on Chaos; the falcon symbol and 'Darkfalcon' name.
Pets: ‘Dralk’- A large hematite male dralk. Surprisingly tame for a dralk, he appears to be adapting fairly well to being tamed, probably due to either his owner’s strong personality or the fact that he is not the brightest dralk in the herd.
Bond: Abcynth- Ryuuki
Appearance: His body is rather large and powerful, but he has one severely stunted and rather twisted wing
which does not allow him to fly. His coloring is simple, a uniform dark purple, summer and winter.
Personality: He is a bit better at understanding social situations and relationships than his bond. He does his best to hide a bit of an inferiority complex which makes him throw his all into every thing he does, as well as causes the occasional bouts of slight depression. Abcynth's one goal in life is to be 'useful' and loved. He has a variety of traits picked up from the influences on his young life which are rather un-ryuuki like, including tail thumping, licking, and headbutting.
Chisulo "Spot" Odiinkemelu
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Species: Hyena changeling
Appearance: Human form: About five foot five, he has broad shoulders and a narrow waist. A black tattoo, a few shades darker than his skin, wraps around his right wrist and up to his shoulder. His eyes are dark, nearly black, and he has a jeweled stud in his pierced nose. He keeps his hair around shoulder-length. Unless working, Chisulo tends to wear very fine or bright clothing in order to draw attention to himself.
Hyena: A small hyena, he only stands at about two and a half feet tall. Still bulky, he has a shaggy, tan coat with spots.
Guild/Rank: Thief- occasional dealer of precious stones
Personality: Rarely prone to bursts of anger, he tries to keep things peaceful with those who he chooses to be around. While Chisulo is perfectly capable of surviving on his own, he tends to prefer the company of others and, whenever plausible, attempts to smooth over tenseness and hostility in any group. A charmer when he wishes to be, he can hide complete hatred behind a smiling face. He has a habit of holding grudges for a very long time, and he rarely feels the need to let the other person know. He is also a pathological liar, and not always a very consistent one. It can be assumed that any personal information he gives is a blatant lie, unless he can be made to swear to it.
Religious Views: Chisulo will admit to following no god or goddess, but he will also speak out against no god or goddess. He keeps a collection of religious artifacts around and will habitually rotate which he uses for luck and which god he swears by, because it `Never hurts to have too many gods on your side'. The simple presence of a religious symbol on one of his marks has many times been enough to encourage him to find other prey.
Mother: Malika Odiinkemelu - Clanleader/merchant
Father: Zuhri Odiinkemelu
Siblings: Jamali and Lakita
Other Familial Ties: sister-in-law: Stara
Background: Chisulo was the youngest son and often found himself in competition with his siblings. Smaller and less aggressive, he most often found himself the loser in those competitions. He was very interested in his mother's work as a merchant, but it was to be the inheritance of his brother. He took to traveling and trying to build his own trade, until a confrontation between he and his brother over his brother's new wife drove him away.
He got on the first ship he came across and began traveling, dealing in stolen precious stones and whatever other objects he could safely steal to sell. Eventually, he wound up in Oceanica and decided to settle down, but the recent influx of former guilders made him decide to test the situation in Cascadia, where he joined up with the group attempting to reform the thieves' guild.
Niel Cerante
Age: Late twenties
Gender: male
Species: human
Appearance: Medium height, with brown hair and eyes, he is hardly anything to catch the eye. To the contrary, he is the kind of person one tends to not notice being there until he draws attention to himself, which he is rarely prone to doing. He tends towards dressing as drably as possible, but always keeps himself neat, hair trimmed short and clothing never ragged or worn. He almost always has a healer’s kit with him, but never a weapon.
Guild/Rank: Healer/Master
Personality: Somber and serious, Niel tends to not be particularly friendly. He spent a lot of his time as a wanderer and a new master working at healing those wounded from battles/fighting, and so has a hatred of all violence and yet a strange sympathy for knights and soldiers. He also dislikes stupidity, and has little respect for those injured because of their own or those who exaggerate their injuries/illnesses.
Parents:
Background: Growing up as the eldest son of a pair of healers, it is little surprise that he chose that as his desired profession at a very young age. His parents in fact enjoy embarrassing him with tales of his youthful attempts to bring home stray or injured animals and nurse them back to health. His early life was relatively peaceful, even though he grew up in a Chaos-controlled ShadowStar.
As the oldest child, he spent much of his youth caring for his younger siblings while his parents were busy with work and, he later learned, discretely helping those who had found themselves in trouble under Chaos’s rule.
He entered training at a very young age and very quickly ascended to wanderer rank, although he lingered there a bit longer than he might have, more interested in trying to help as many as he could than in pursuing his master rank.
A couple of years ago, he returned to the city to test for mastery and work at the guildhall.Niel’s lack of a proper bedside manner made him a bit unsuitable towards his work, and, by advisement and through preference, he took up primarily nightshifts. Since this means he tends to help those who really are injured or seriously ill, this suits him very well.
Pets:
Bond:
Appearance: Jalenn is a rather small palomino mare with a very long mane and tail.
Personality: Jalenn has a very kind, friendly, and outgoing personality which annoys her quieter bond. She also takes her bond’s propensity towards being a pacifist a bit farther than he does, having difficulties accepting it even if it _is_ self-defense, in part because she is very young and has herself seen little violence.
Cian Lairgnen
Age: about 850
Gender: Male
Species: Wylraen
Appearance: He is around six-four or six-five with a build that is more too thin than slender. His skin has less of the silvery translucence than many of his species do to a great deal of unprotected exposure from the elements. His hair is dark blond, falls almost to his shoulders, and tends to almost always be in need of a trim. When spending time in cities and civilization, he tends to dress exclusively in the robes of Aeryon, although he is quick to put them aside for other more practical garments when venturing back into wilderness. He caries no true weapons, only a short knife in his boot for everyday use.
Guild/Rank: Druid - Changer of Aeryon/ Air King
First change: winter wren
Second change: belted kingfisher
Personality: He is friendly and cheerful and very nearly impossible to fluster or offend. Self-destructive behavior is one of the only things which is likely to gain one disapproval from him. He tends to fixate on things for long periods of time before randomly setting them aside for new things. This tends to make conversations with him a bit confusing as he will occasionally drift off into tangents bearing a relevancy only he can see. He has a very hard time keeping track of time and cannot entirely understand the fixation which those of short life-spans seem to have on such trivial things as ‘hours’ and ‘months’.
Parents: Mother: Lynette Lairgnen
Father: Galvyn Lairgnen
Siblings: Sister: Mavelle - around 1000
Brother: Bevyn - around 600
Background: Cian was always a bit spacey and very friendly, and it was clear from his youth that he did not fit in very well in the reclusive society he was living in. He had a habit of bringing travelers home for dinner (whether they were lost and starving, or he had to nearly drag them), and when one happened to be a gnome druid he found very interesting, it did not take a great deal of effort for him to get his family to agree leaving was perhaps the best for him.
It took him about two centuries of what was almost intolerably intense training for Cian before he completed his first change, and it was at that point that he and his master separated, as the gnome’s advancing age made the extensive travel Cian wished for more difficult. No longer being gently prodded back to his studies by a master, it was several centuries before he succeeded in focusing on one animal long enough to complete a second change.
It was during a particularly intense contemplation of the lives of a family of bats living in a cave that he met a female elemental. This led him to spend the next several decades attempting to learn about elementals, much to the irritation of his targeted interest. Eventually, she got used to him and they traveled together off and on for a while. They recently lost track of each other again due to him suddenly becoming interested in smithing and missing a rendezvous by a few months.
He had a young acolyte for a few years during the Age of Darkness, but he passed him off to another druid who was taking his own student into hiding, and their paths have yet to cross again.
Pets
Pet name: Kermit
Species: Kalchon
Pet description: He is bright green and blue. He is moderately
friendly, for a kalchon, which basically means he might do you the
honor of waking up and paying attention when he is being spoken to.
Bond: Linae – Gryphon
Appearance: She is average sized, but her snowy white, prismatic
feathers make her anything but average in appearance.
Personality: Serious and calm, she is almost as unflappable as her
bond. Her tendency to fixate leads her to need to finish tasks before she
moves on to the next, and she has slightly obsessive-compulsive tendencies.
Talent: They have a perfect sense of time, They can always judge what time it is to the second and can tell how long has passed/how long something has taken, etc.
