Glossary of Terms
Here's a list of words unique to Shadow Star, as well as a few quirky takes on some common roleplay or fantasy terms.
- allyfant: The elephant-like faerie people that supposedly inhabit the imaginary realm of Middle Earth. (See also Middle Earth.)
- arsil: SS swear. An arsil was an exceedingly stupid, now-extinct mammal in Shadow Star. Also used as a replacement for 'butt'.
- blufa: Demontongue word meaning 'showoff'.
- cath (also: cathed, cathing): An SS swear with no particular meaning; probably means something along the lines of "damn."
- craz (also: crazzing): An SS swear with no particular meaning.
- drys: SS swear. Demontongue for "sperm." When said by an SSer, it means "demon sperm." One of the strongest SS swears.
- dryshal: SS swear, a demontongue derivative meaning 'drys-hole', 'source of drys' usually used as 'dryshal sucking', 'dryshal licking', and so on.
- feeblon: Demontongue word. Used to refer to mixed breeds, most commonly half-demons, but isn't as derogatory as "halfie". More commonly used by imps and other non-demon species that speak demontongue natively.
- gynak: SS swear. Demontongue for "spawn" when referring to ogres- when said by an SSer, it means "ogre spawn", synonymous in meaning with "bastard."
- hara: SS swear, derived from demontongue "haralan". Means 'manwhore', 'butt boy', 'harem boys', and generally implies a male prostitute, usually one who is submissive to another male.
- Hogwarts: An imaginary disease, the rumors of which are propagated by young children in large groups. Symptoms supposedly include polka-dotted rashes, growing extra toes, and changing genders. It is only spreadable from one child to another of the opposite gender and has spawned a schoolyard culture of 'cures' and 'wards' for protection, including the universal Hogwarts Shot. Adults tend to reference Hogwarts when referring to something childish.
- joru: SS swear, a demontongue derivative. Means 'demon slut,' synonymous with 'will skank for Chaos'.
- Kloo: A rare tree whose wood is coveted by bards and artisans, especially educators of all sorts. Found only in deep forest, in somehow naturally organized groves, the straight and tall leafy trees grow slowly. The wood itself has subtle magical properties. Those who touch it seem to gain a stronger clarity of thought. Often crafted into individual one handed staffs called bhats, or planks called baifores, they're typically used to knock a little common sense into those who seem lacking, and often are called by their full names out of respect for the magic of the wood, Kloo bhats and Kloo baifores.
- lightsabers: ultra-light, whiplike blades often used for practice or as children's toys. Because the blades are so thin, they are ineffective for cutting most everything and merely bend at pressure. Some lightsaber aficionados implant enchanted gems into the hilt, which can give off a glow that gives the blade a lighted effect.
- Middle Earth: A mystical, imaginary realm populated with tiny, elephant-like people the size of a child's fist. Tales of their adventures are often told to children as bedtime stories.
- mythril (also mithril): a sticky, sweet bread with a strange metallic luster to its crust, often used by the insane as ineffective weaponry and armor.
- nuck: Slangish word referring to the vagina. A fairly strong curse word.
- Paladin: A well-known brand of oven paddle, most often used for cooking or pottery firing. Their slogan is "Paladins: the Bread Maker."
- piuxo: Demontongue word. A good lay, or someone who is a good lay. Rather slangy.
- pone: A paddlewhack term. To defeat the opponent so completely that it's embarrassing; a complete victory.
- rathrin: Demontongue word. Used to refer to a hardassed or dominating female and is almost a compliment. Most commonly used in reference to the bloodmagic community, where often several females are engaged in cutthroat competition for funding and recognition.
- 'the Guild': 1. Used by Patrollers to refer to the Thieves' Guild. 2. Used by Chaosians to refer to Chaos's Thieves' Guild.
- the net: The Patrol's extensive network of informants, spies, and professional gossips. 'Hitting the net' is slang for visiting various contacts in the net. It is largely tracked by a contact known as Google, and his submissive lover, Yahoo.
- typhoon, tsunami: A pair of mild curses for Water Spherers. Meanings should be obvious.
- wappa: Demontongue word. Originally had a meaning similar to 'barbarian' in reference to the 'wap-wap'-like sounds of orcs trying to speak demontongue. Nowadays, it means 'airhead' or 'bubblebrain' in reference to orc intelligence and naiveity.
- whisking-away disease: ICly, it's a disease individuals sometimes come down with when they just wander off, sometimes for years, sometimes forever. If they're found, they usually can't remember what happened, or they tell strange stories that seem to be delusion. OOCly, it's what happens to characters when their players leave without warning and don't establish what happens to their characters.
- xuriof: Demontongue word. Often loosely translated as "cute", a more accurate definition is "pet-like", which is about as cute as most Chaosians get
- yaiba: Demontongue word. A very slangy term for a lover, commonly translated as 'fuckbuddy'.
