Civillian Profile

Name: Ataro Uehara
Name Meaning: Ataro is an African name that she brought back with her, a word meaning "puzzle". Her family name Uehara stands for "divine plain" - something that may or may not describe the family, depending on the time of day.
Sex: Female
Birthday: January 18th
Age: 27
Appearance: Height: 5'7''. Weight: 180 lbs. Eyes: Large, black, the irises so large they almost look animal-like. Bright and shiny, but sometimes a little vacant. Her eyes aren't always focused on the here and now, as she tends to stay in her head imagining future projects. When she pays attention, her gaze is almost embarrassingly intense, and difficult to decipher. Hair: Pitch black and thick, wiry, and tightly curled, she keeps it very short. Occasionally she gets extentions in the form of hundreds of long, tightly-braided strands of black and auburn. Skin: The color of rich dark chocolate, or good coffee beans. Build: She is often described in terms like "soft", "pleasantly plump", and "cuddly". She herself prefers to call herself "bouncy" or "huggable" or even "well insulated". She isn't obese, but she has enough padding to keep her warm in the winter. Better yet, it all seems to be proportioned in the right places, giving her a very buxom figure with a large bosom and hips that are wider than her torso, and a hint of slim around her ribcage that gives the illusion of an hourglass figure. Identifying Marks: She has a beauty mark beside her left eye, and a dark birthmark about the size of a quarter on her back above her right hipbone. Accessories: Green-framed reading glasses she keeps in her pocket when she's not wearing them.

Personality: In many ways, she has all of the qualities that would have lent itself well to a perfect housepet -- perhaps part of the reason she dislikes most companion animals. She is gentle and generally even-tempered. She normally only expresses her opinions of something with carefully worded comments that she delivers with such a serene smile people have a hard time suspecting her of true maliciousness. ( Read: passive aggressive. ) Just fiesty enough to be entertaining, as it were. Like a parakeet with clipped wings. When she becomes upset, she tends to scold inanimate objects. Also, coming from a large family that is proud of its ability to grow exponentially, she has been told since she was very young that she has the perfect body for children -- "a good breeder", as the less tactful aunts and uncles would say. They are proud of her figure. She wishes she was an infertile stick, since she's sure she'd get more work done if people would stop trying to convince her to get married and have oodles of smart little offspring.

When not being compared to a broodmare, she is a very pleasant, if odd, person. She is good with children and the elderly, and spends the majority of her time using her education and creativity to make up crazy inventions that run the gamet from impractical to just plain weird. She can't help but be constantly working on something, even when she should be teaching. Therefore, she loves to get her students involved so she feels like she's teaching them something rather than just giving them redundant bookwork. This often leads to impromptu field trips and social experiments.
Strengths: Focused, open-minded, creative, sometimes ingenious, detail oriented; tends to be a very engaging person, both in action and conversation -- that is, if you can get her to focus on something other than a project
Weaknesses: Touchy, excitable, incapable of multitasking, doesn't have a very good sense of humor, sedentary; has a hard time with discipline in the classroom
Future Goals: Get a tenure at a college as a professor of either science or psychology. Figure out a method of giving her house plants the exact right amount of water with a mechanized contraption. Configure an automated reward/punishment system for her students. Etc.

Favorite Gemstone: Amethyst
Favorite Food: Crab
Favorite Subject: Science, Psychology
Least Favorite SUbject: Physical Education, Government
Activities & Hobbies: Inventing, making/fixing clocks, collecting marbles, setting up elaborate experiments
Occupation: Sr. High Physics Teacher

Current History: Until Ataro was three, her life is something of a grand mystery. Ask her family sometime. You'll get all the details you'll ever need, and more. They love a good story.

Basically, Sota Uehara was traveling abroad in Africa -- most of the family agrees that it was Kenya, Sota is pretty sure it was Zimbabwe, and his brother Youko who was traveling with him insists that it was Egypt which, everyone agrees, is simply ridiculous -- when he came across a little girl wandering alone through a village. She was thin and dirty, and no one in the village would claim her. He finally discovered that she had been abandoned by her mother, who claimed that the child's father was a demonic spirit.

Sota didn't believe this for a second, and so he brought her home with him, much to Youko's annoyance, since he wasn't around when she was found to see how she lived and hear her story firsthand. In reality, he was probably just miffed he hadn't found her first.

The Uehara family took Ataro in without hesitation. The family had been large by Japanese standards to begin with, and they seemed determined to spread the love to as many needy kids as possible, earning them the nickname the Uehara Orphanage. With the collection of oddballs that were raised in the household, a tiny African girl who couldn't yet speak anything but her native tongue, and mostly only her name in that, and was supposedly half demon was small potatoes.

Despite her previous state of malnutrition and neglect, Ataro rebounded quickly and was soon competing heartily with her adopted siblings for food and attention. And then she discovered science at school. See, building and creating held an almost druglike fascination for Ataro, and as soon as she was old enough, she was competing in and winning at science fairs and generally adding to the chaos at home with her constant and often bizarre or just plain pointless inventions. It was obvious from a young age that she would grow up to be a scientist.

Imagine the family's consternation when she went to school to become a teacher instead.

Oh well. After much hubbub and dissent in the family, Ataro graduated and took up a position at the first school that accepted her application. It happened to be the Sr. High in Marin City. She moved there without delay, though it was close enough to her hometown to make visits to her family whenever the clamoring from them to come back gets loud enough to interrupt her work.

Senshi Profile

Senshi Name: Sailor Horologium
Realm of Influence: Clockwork and Mechanisms
Colors: Copper and charcoal gray, with steel as the accent.
Outfit:
--Tiara: Made of polished steel, it is about two inches tall and sits on her head like a small crown. The metal is rippled, and the top styled in a series of spikes, the center being the tallest and the others getting progressively shorter.
--Choker: A simple circlet of steel around her throat.
--Sailor Collar: Copper-colored, it lays to the side on her chest in a triangular pattern similar to lapels on a dressy blouse or a suit jacket. It follows the neckline of her suit down into a V that shows no cleavage.
--Bodice: A skintight suit of charcoal gray, it is sleeveless and has several holes of various sizes and a couple different shapes, seemingly scattered at random over her. Most obvious are the oval holes down her spine, two slits from her shoulders down to her hips, and a large hole over the base of her spine. The suit legs disappear into her boots at the thigh, continuing unseen to her ankles. There is a row of steel gear-shaped buttons down the front. A thin band of steel bisects the torso of the suit, to which her weapons can be affixed.
--Brooch: Centered at the apex of the V in her suit between the collar is another steel gear, about two inches in diameter.
--Gloves: Charcoal gray gloves that end in copper-colored, folded-down cuffs at mid upper arm. The tips of the fingers are missing, and there are steel rings around the wrists. There are also holes at the elbows.
--Footwear: Charcoal gray boots that end in copper-colored, folded-down cuffs at mid thigh. There are a series of very small holes down the front, and steel rings around the ankles. The soles of the boots are steel.
--Other: The outfit is very smooth, nearly minimalistic except for the large cuffs.

Transformation Item: A charm bracelet with exactly a dozen dime-sized clocks made of different metals, each in perfect working order, each telling a different time. If you listen very carefully, you can hear the faint, chaotic ticking.
Transformation Phrase: "Clockwork Choreography, Gear Up!"

Fighting Style: Long range attacks with bombs and bolla, carefully planned to trip and entagle, confuse and harm.
Strengths: Tactical, determined, single-minded, practical; physically strong and resilient to attack, good hand/eye coordination
Weaknesses: Controlling, argumentative, suspicious, generally ill-tempered; susceptible to electrical attacks
Weapons: A collection of clockwork bombs that look like pocket watches, and a length of chain with a pair of foot-diameter bronze gears at either end.

Attacks
Name of Attack: Tick Tock Grenades
--What it looks like: A collection of small gold pocketwatches on foot-long chains. When the chains are pulled, they become live, and the cover pops open. The top dial can also be turned and set to a specific interval at which the clocks will explode.
--Damage or Effect: The watches explode on contact or if the cover is opened and the watch left for a few minutes, causing extensive physical damage and leaving a cloud of black dust that can disorient.
--Accuracy/Effectiveness: The clocks are mostly reliable, only very occasionally malfunctioning and either going off early or not at all. The blast radius, ten feet, is wide enough that they don't have to hit the target exactly to be effective, but Ataro is a good shot anyway. They are weak against speedy foes.

Name of Attack: Gear'd Bolla
--What it looks like: She whirls the weapon over head much like a nunchucks and throws it.
--Damage or Effect: Moving at such a high velocity, that length of chain with the heavy bronze gears can inflict some heavy damage. It can also wrap around a person and trip them or otherwise render them incapacitated.
--Accuracy/Effectiveness: There isn't much chance of a malfunction with the bolla, and Ataro has good aim, but it's ineffective in close combat except as a bashing weapon. Also, there is a chance that it will hurt people clustered around the target.

Past History: Far off in another part of the universe, quite a while back, there was a species that was rather too smart for its own good.

This species was obsessed with technology and scientific advancement of all kinds, and it ended up screwing them over in quite interesting ways, which they thought were fascinating and documented thoroughly.

The first big problem arrived when they started messing with their own genetic makeup. Originally a mammalian species much like bipedal marmosets, their offspring, both the engineered ones and then their natural children, began exhibiting the aftereffects of this DNA manipulation. The more bizarre the abnormality, the more these people adored the child, which led to these traits being passed on and combined with other oddballs, until there were no originals of the species left. The people were not troubled by this. They had examples of their unchanged DNA backed up in some facility or other. No worries.

The people soon grew tired of manipulating their genes, and moved on to bigger and better problems. In the midst of their very important work, the universe started experiencing some difficulty. Unconcerned with other species' issues, they decided to elect a Senshi to defend them merely for the purpose of keeping the rest of the universe's problems away from them. Being such an intelligient species, they decided to elect the new Senshi with a mass chess tournament, the justification being that any of their kind who was a brilliant enough tactician to best the rest at chess was surely prime material for a Senshi who's goal was to allow them to continue their social evolution unmolested.

It was soon after this that a trend in their species that actually disturbed them appeared. It seemed that, in their pursuit of knowledge, their people had neglected to procreate. On top of that, the mortality rate of mothers and offspring had spiked when the variations in their species became too odd for normal birth. Distracted by their other projects, and having abandoned the genetic alteration project, these problems with reproduction had gone unnoticed until they were in dire straights indeed. Only a relatively few of their kind were left. Something had to be done to correct the error, and quickly.

Several of their top scientists, the newly-elected Senshi included, rushed off to the facility where the original DNA was held, planning to restart the species from their basics. Much to their dismay, the facility had been reappropriated into a testing lab for yet another of the species' projects, and all of the old material that had been stored there had been destroyed.

Well, shucks.

Unable to restore their species to an unmanipulated state, they focused intsead on boosting their numbers. Those mothers who were able to bear children without problems were encouraged to have as many children as possible with as many different fathers as possible. Despite careful documentation of parentage, this inevitably led to mistakes and inbreeding, thereby worsening the problem instead of making things better. Their numbers continued to decrease slowly but steadily until there were only a few dozen of them left.

Drastic measures were called for. It was decided unanimously that the only way to preserve themselves was to go outside their species. With the introduction of new blood, they could rebuild their numbers. They were advanced and meticulous enough to keep track of their offspring on whatever planet and with whatever parent they chose, so they decided to spread out through the universe, wait a few decades, and then regroup and see where they ended up.

The Senshi of their people elected to accompany one or another and keep tabs on the remaining members of the species on their travels. She died ignominiously around ten years later while defending one of her kind who was looking for prime genetic material and was attacked by a tribe of natives.

It was, ironically, a woman of this tribe who bore the child who contained this Senshi's starseed. She had been impregnated by the demon spirit her tribe later killed, along with its demon protector.

(This is where you tell us any related historical information that’s in or before her current lifetime or her starseed's origin. Tell us about her awakening as a sailor senshi, or her training as a senshi. Tell us all about her past as a Sailor Senshi. This is different from her past as a civilian.)
Mission: Protect her world and her people from evil and interruption in their evolutionary path, and restore their species to the productive society it once was. Oh, and protect the occasional deserving soul as well.

Other Information: As her previous incarnation was an alien Senshi with odd extremities, the first time she goes Sailor Senshi, there will be several unexplained holes in her suit. Her Sailor form will be growing extra appendages over time, much to her horror. These will disappear when she reverts to Friendly Neighborhood Science Teacher form, but reappear and grow every time she fights. Eventually, she will have an extra set of arms, a tail, spines down her back, a set of three horns, claws, and a matching set of oddly pretty but entirely useless shoulder frills.
