Teddy Bear

Why do almost all holidays require some sort of gift? Hiroyuki asked himself this as he snuck into the stuffed animals shop, trying to keep the shopkeepers from noticing his prescence. He settled himself somewhere between the cats and bears, well beyond the sight of the clerk. He began sorting methodically through the teddy bears, looking for one that would be a perfect gift for the winter holidays.

"Why, look! It's a ninja! Who would've thought, a bleeding ninja in the middle of a mall." Said a loud and all too familiar voice.

Hiro nearly jumped five feet out of his hiding spot, a teddy in each hand. He turned and scowled at Osric, who was smirking down evilly at him. Translating what he had said, Hiro replied in his best english, "I'm sorry, but I do not understand what you mean by 'ninja'."

"Come on, now. You look like you're going to assasinate those poor little bears you have. Though I have no idea who would hire such a miserable git as yourself to off a couple of stuffed animals." Osric said, taking one of the bears from Hiro's hands and tossing it back into the pile.

"Go away." Hiro said, trying to scoot out of the shop.

"Now why would I want to do that? Especially when I can shop at this fine establishment." He said, blocking Hiro's only exit.

"Because I'm shoping here for a gift." Hiro said, trying to shuffle away and remain hidden at the same time.

"Oh, what for? Don't tell me you have a special someone to get a Christmas gift for." Osric raised an eyebrow, curious, despite the fact he was rather sure of who it was for already. "It wouldn't be for my dear little flatmate, now would it?"

Hiro scruched down more, vaguely comical in his ball-like form. "Yes. What of it?"

"You know, she isn't big into stuffed animals. Maybe you could get her a corpse or something, since she likes all those weird games. Or not get her anything at all, because then I won't have to break your ruddy nose." Osric said in a surprisingly congenial manner for someone threatening bodily harm.

Hiro picked up a teddy bear she figured she would like, ignoring what Osric said, and carefully tried to creep up to the counter without being spotted by any nosy workers. He wasn't expecting the Brit to suddenly put him in a headlock, threatening his life if he did anything to Shizuka. But that's what he got.

By the grace of someone upstairs who loved him (or perhaps the fact that Shizuka tended to shop at the mall every other Satuday) Shizuka and Oroka arrived on the scene, Oroka promptly punching Osric for making such a scene in a store. He then argued that she had just made a bigger scene, earning him another punch.

Shizuka waved at Hiro, and looked at the bear, "You weren't planning on buying that for yourself, were you?"

He pushed up his glasses, embarrassed, and shook his head violently, "I was, um, you see..."

"Oh, good!" Shizuka said, plucking the bear out of his hands and buying it for herself. Sometimes it just didn't pay to try to hard at buying gifts. Still, he ended up getting a hug of thanks from Shizuka, which made him quite happy.
