Doomed?

Doom is a word that is too often used. It has been thrown around so much that the meaning of utter hopelessness conveyed with it has been lost. People who overuse the word 'doom' without it meaning sheer and utter loss of a chance are a horrible breed. Sadly, Callisto was one of those kind.

"I'm just doomed to have a miserable life, aren't I?" The blonde complained aloud after her mother told her that she had been betrothed to her childhood 'friend' Bootes.

"You get along well enough with him, don't you?" Was the Queen's response, "You could get married to an almost complete stranger, like the young Polaris."

The blonde princess groaned again, because marrying someone who she rather hated was a big deal, especially when you're twelve years old, "Well at least she has a chance to not hate him!"

"You don't hate him, dear. And even if you do it's rude to say such things." The older woman sighed, "He's a good boy, and it will strengthen the ties between our two kingdoms."

"That doesn't mean I'm not doomed." Callisto pouted and curled up into a ball on her bed. Life really sucked sometimes.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the galaxy was a 12 year old boy who was bouncing around his room in extreme enthusiasm, because dammit, life was being good to him. He was going to marry the girl he loved(?) someday.

It's a shame poor Callisto couldn't have the luck this young man named Bootes did.
